Sonia Bravia and ignite TV

JenAre64
I've been here awhile

In late December we purchased a new Sony Bravia TV (4K HDR LED Smart) - we are now having lots of issues with ignite ...

1.  We could not pair the remote and after hours of trying different things and speaking to Rogers, we were told we had a faulty box.  Seemed odd as the box was working just fine with the old tv.  Nevertheless, we got the new box and new controller.  Again we were having issues trying to pair the remote.  We were never getting the code to enter.  We called Rogers and we were finally able to get everything working.

2.  Yesterday we lost power for a few minutes, TV was not on when this happened.  When power went back on, the remote was no longer paired.  We tried to follow the steps to pair again and no luck.  Kept getting an error message that box was not on.  We tried to reboot the ignite hub, we tried to unplug box and still no luck.  The other two TVs were perfectly fine.  Contacted Rogers and again we tried to pair the controller.  Once again the code was not popping up on the screen and we kept getting the same error message that box was not.  Tech came to the conclusion that there was something wrong with the box.   It could be rotten luck, but seems very odd that we had the box for two years with no issues, get a new tv and have not had to replace two boxes within three weeks.

Another odd thing, we cannot access Apple TV with our ignite controller.  We need to use the Sony remote. Any idea why we couldn't use the rogers controller for apple?

Anyone else having similar issues or have any advice ??? Not super technical so please go easy on me 🙂

Instead of going through the box to set up the remote, simply used the appropriate code from the URC website for your TV.  I'm assuming you have the XR15 remote, link below:

https://www.urcsupport.com/urc_product/rogers-xr15/?product-provider=365

Go to "Setup - Add New TV" and key in the appropriate code for your make/model of TV per the instructions for the remote.  If that doesn't work properly, say you don't know the model number of the TV and various codes will come up for the manufacturer. Try them all one by one.  One of them will work since you had it working.

IF you have the XR11 remote, see the following link:

https://www.urcsupport.com/urc_product/rogers-xr11-2/?product-provider=365

The box has absolutely nothing to do with programming the correct code into the remote, unless you're utilizing HDMI-CEC technology to control the TV via the box' HDMI connection back to the TV, which I don't usually recommend.

The reason the remote won't control your AppleTV is because it doesn't have the IR codes for that device, only for TVs and AVR (Audio Video Receivers.)  The TV probably does it via the HDMI-CEC connection, or it has the appropriate AppleTV IR codes, unlike the Rogers remote:

See the links below regarding HDMI-CEC functionality.
