Home Phone Active Without Internet

BrianWalker
I'm here a lot

We were lied to by Rogers sales rep. We have Rogers services at a seasonal location and we only need internet and television services 6 months out of 12, however we need the Home phone service active 12 months out of 12 for call fwd and security system. Rep assured us that home phone would function without internet. Can Rogers keep the internet active for the months of absence but suspend the billing? Rogers can monitor to ensure internet is not being used for data or other purposes while billing is suspended.

@BrianWalker All this stuff was "easy", back in the day of legacy services when you had a standalone TV service, a standalone home phone service, and a standalone Internet service.  The services were all independent of one another.

With Ignite, the TV and Internet services are combined into a single-price bundle, and Ignite Home Phone is a $10 add-on to the TV/Internet bundle.  You cannot suspend just the TV service and have the other services active.

Depending on which area you are in, Ignite Home Phone does not technically require the Internet service to be functional in order to place phone calls.  Ignite Internet could be out in your area but Home Phone might still work, so the "home phone would function without internet" response that you got from the Rogers is technically correct.  However, Ignite Home Phone is not sold as a $10/month standalone service, or a standalone service at any price.  When you suspend your Ignite TV and Internet services, Home Phone would need to be suspended as well... and I have no idea when would happen if anybody tried to call your number at that time.

Here's another possible option:  Is Rogers Wireless Home Phone available at the property in question?  That service would be separate from Ignite TV/Internet and would remain active while the TV and Internet services are suspended.

Rogers Ignite is a fairly new service so Its not that clear what is possible or not, your best bet is to call and ask them.

I know for a fact that other providers who over residential services CAN suspend the Internet and TV and still have the home phone functional.   It mostly depends on how the home phone is delivered.  Home phone does NOT require a residential internet to work, however it does require a private ip network. it depends on how they configured their network

Re: Home Phone Active Without Internet

We live in Florida and spend summers in Ontario so Rogers cannot provide service for 12 months

Why do u need a home phone then? just get a virtual local number from a third party phone providers and forward it to your cell phone?

Re: Home Phone Active Without Internet

Do you happen to know the names of these providers? We spend summers near Ottawa so we would need a supplier in this area. It was because Bell fibe could not provide stand-alone home phone that we allowed ourselves to migrate to Rogers believing that they could. If another supplier can provide these services we would be interested

I plan to stick around

no, you cannot have Ignite home phone without the internet.

Ignite TV is already 5 years old as it was launched in August 2018
