Samsung Galaxy S2

I've Been Here Awhile

I spoke with a Rogers rep and he said that they will not be getting the S2 yet. He said probably not until earliest September, but more likely even later in the year.

Too bad...its an amazing phone, but I've been saving my upgrade for months and months for the S2 only to be disappointed that I have to wait for everyone else to get it first. Smiley Sad

Oh look!

Yet another provider who has the Galaxy S II out before Rogers!

http://www.telusmobility.com/en/ON/samsung_galaxy_s_II_x/index.shtml?eVar6=link

You know, 42mbps isn't much noticibly different from 75mbps for most people....

And the hardware specs look pretty similar too.

Anyone up for cancelling Rogers and going to Telus?

Edit: Didn't realize that link didn't have the release date.

http://mobilesyrup.com/2011/10/20/official-telus-launching-samsung-galaxy-s-ii-x-hercules-october-28...

October 28th.

can any one tell me which phone is going to be better the Samsung Galaxy S2 or the samsung Galaxy Nexus???

and what is the difference between the Super AMOLED plus display on the Galaxy S2 and the  HD Super AMOLED display on the Galaxy Nexus???

The HD AMOLED has a 1280-800 resolution, so it's just a higher resolution and dpi than the plus. The Nexus will be the better phone, depending on what you are looking for, obviously the screen is better and it will also be on ice cream sandwich. The phone is bigger though, and some alrady feel the S2 is already bug for some people.

And the HD AMOLED is reportedly a pentile display (with subpixels) like the original SAMOLED screens (e.g. Captivate).  This isn't 100%, but that's the word on the tech forums/blogs.

Yeah, Endadget/Ars just confirmed it -- it's a PenTile display.   I'm definitely not interested in the Nexus now, that and the lack of a card slot.

Speaking of disinterest, since it's looking more and more like the Rogers version of the GS2 LTE is not going to have the Exynos, my interest is flagging on that too.

Re: Samsung Galaxy S2

Well, finally decided to stop reading and post something about the Galaxy S2.

Recently got sick of Apples crap and decided to switch over, happily paid the $40 thinking that the phone would arrive in early October as promised(somewhat); needless to say, just cancelled my reservation and am buying an unlocked S2.

If Rogers had addressed at least some of our comments on this thread I might have changed my mind, but come on, even if they could have given us a single straight response they could have kept me around.

Disappointed in all this, hopefully the rest of you will get your phones soon!

Best of luck, and I'll be sure to free myself from Rogers when my contract is up.

All cell phone companies are the same.  They will all screw you in different ways.  The best way to do it is by NOT signing a contract. Get a prepaid service ( I use Fido, and can cancel or change my plan whenever I want with NO penalties ) and buy your phone outright. That way you are in control of what you can or cannot do.  Fido has been pretty fair to me thus far.  Ive heard horror stories about them as well (they are afterall an affiliate of Rogers I believe, I know they use the same Network) but if you are not locked into a contract, you are much better off.  Especially when calling and complaining about an issue, because they know you have the option to walk away at any given time and go with another company.  It just gives you a little bit of leverage.

Re: Samsung Galaxy S2

I might as well come in the mix...

I'm currently on queue at 509...I want to add my sense of frustration about Rogers' inability to respond to any of our complaints.  The product owner/manager for this device should be fired to mishandling its launch.  They're utterly clueless or simply careless about customer service.  Regardless of the outcome, I promised myself to go take the time today and remaining time rogers is taking to get back to us, to evaluate the cost of transfer to another carrier, since I have more than 5 products and services with them.

Great job Rogers...way to handle the demand for such a great product!

Will it be possible to upgrade the GS2 with Ice cream sandwich at some point?

Just saw a post of FB from Samsung Canada...... says the S2 LTE is coming soon.  At least they've got a webpage up for us to drool over now!  Hopefully we don't have to drool for too much longer.

I've just cancelled my reservation ... I have a Bold 9000 now, and thinking that my intro to the Android Family might be something a bit more reasonable, like the Galaxy Infuse.  On a 3 year it's only 1¢!  I still need to do a bit of a HUP and I'm generally pleased with Rogers, so I don't really want to leave.

Getting a good Android phone NOW for a low price, makes more sense than being frustrated with this reservation cycle.  Good luck to everybody who's hanging in!

From Google:

col·lu·sion/kəˈlo͞oZHən/

Noun:
 1. Secret or illegal cooperation or conspiracy, esp. in order to cheat or deceive others.

I'm not making ANY accusations here, but as there is no response from Rogers this is where my mind takes me. An agreement with Apple to ensure a higher standing in order processing priority isn't something that would be put on paper, but pretty much any other reason for this lack of communication on when the SGS2 will come or even where it is in the chain would easily be posted. Even it it's just "Billy in purchasing screwed up and didn't submit the PO to Samsung".

When there is no reason given I can't help, but think "There is no reason that can be given without admitting guilt". Maybe some investigation by the CRTC or RCMP would shed light on this "lack of communication".

The real problem, ladies and gentlemen, is US.

We have allowed and even encouraged this behaviour.  Every three years - oftentimes less - we allow ourselves to be bought off with a token discount off the published service prices.  And then we’re surprised when, for the ensuing contract term, Rogers treats us like mushrooms - keeping us in the dark and covered with manure.

Customer service is dead.  Mega-corporations care about executive compensation, share price and the bottom line.  Customer needs, wants, and desires are at the bottom of the list, when they are considered at all.  Rogers isn’t alone in this, they might not even be the worst -  but they are right up there.

When I was a teenager, oh, so many years ago, I worked part-time for Zeller’s.  Everyone was assigned to department - my first was toys.  God help you if a manager or, worse, a customer, came looking for you and you weren’t in your department.  It was all about customer service.

If you’ve been in a Toronto area Wal-Mart lately and seen someone walking the aisles yelling “Hellooo, is anyone working here?”, it was probably me.  I just wanted to give them money!  The last time, I got from “tools” (which is in the back corner of the store) to the front door where the greeter told me the floor staff was all in a meeting.  I made my purchase at Home Depot.  It’s STILL about customer service.

I wrote earlier about cancelling my television service with Rogers.  At one time we had it all, VIP package, premium movie channels, complete digital lineup and HD PVR.  In fact, we had a couple of PVRs.  We cut back a couple of years ago but still paid a couple of hundred a month for TV.  I’m quite busy and my wife has MS and tries to go to bed early because of fatigue so anything we want to watch gets recorded.  We went through 4 or 5 HD PVRs.  Once, all the recordings were there they but stuttered all through playback and so did live TV.  I didn’t think that was the box so we placed a service call - that took several days.  Each of the other times I took the box to the local Rogers store where it was replaced without question.  But every time it happened, we lost all of the recorded programs.  No one ever offered to swap the hard drive into the unit or try to copy the content onto the replacement.  With the last failure, again the stuttering issue, I called to cancel the service - they needed 30 days notice.  The service was unusable but I needed to pay for 30 more days because what?  They needed to process paperwork?  They lost me right then.  At that point it didn’t matter what they offered - I was gone.  It’s about customer service even when you have a monopoly.

Previous to that, I cancelled my Business Internet service.  You might not know this but businesses only get support from Rogers Monday to Friday.  I’m a network specialist, I’ve been in this business since 1977.  I’m not sure, but I think I might have picked up a thing or two over the years.  One Saturday morning, my Internet service was down.  I called Rogers.  Of course, when you call Rogers for support, it is ALWAYS customer equipment that is the problem.  This is especially true when dealing with residential support - and it was a Saturday.  Fortunately, our TV was out too so I called Cable support.  “There are no problems in your area, it must be your house wiring.  We can have someone there on Tuesday.”  I went door to door to see my neighbours - the 4 beside me and the 5 across the street.  All out.  I call Rogers back to report that the whole neighbourhood is down.  “No it’s not.”  I tell them that there are 10 home affected and they need to roll a truck.  That apparently is not a big enough outage - there need to be 30 homes affected before they’ll send an emergency truck.  I tell them they’ll be getting calls except from my neighbour 2 doors away because “she was stupid enough to get your home phone service so she can’t call you to report it.”  I don’t have Rogers Internet anymore.  Even when dealing with a business, it’s about service.

And so, for the moment, I am left with my 5 cell phones with Rogers Wireless.  Reception wise, it’s the best service in this area. I’ve got a reasonable service plan but I’m locked in so Rogers is mushroom farming.

If I could find a company that could provide decent service at a fair price and treat me with a little respect, I would be their biggest booster.

As difficult as it is to believe, I don’t think there is such a company so I'll likely end up staying where I am.

We have seen the enemy... and he is us.

The real problem is the government's regulations on telecoms requiring that a majority share be held by Canadian citizens.  This is preventing the much needed competition in the industry that would help bring things such as customer service and prices in line with other countries.

Re: Samsung Galaxy S2

I Plan to Stick Around

Well put, but how do we stop it?
Of course, when you call Rogers for support, it is ALWAYS customer equipment that is the problem.
Same with Telus internet. Haven't dealt with Bell, but a few people I know testify about problems Bell has with continuing to bill after the account is cancelled and then sending the "past due" file to collections.

The problem really lies with us. We need our toys. My parents owned a small town store for a couple of decades, 80 miles from the nearest city. Many of the townsfolk would flock to the stroes in the city on a weekly basis, because they could save $0.25 on a $5 item. That kind of mentality allows huge chains like wal-Mart not only to exist, but to be so big they have no real competition. When you have no serious competition who cares if some poors saps have to wonder you aisles for hours looking for help finding a screwdriver. They're still gonna buy a loaf of bread before they leave the store.

Hey drummer....that IS great news!  I am just wondering why Telus is releasing theirs 1st?  I thought that Rogers was about a month ahead of them?

im wondering the same thing....
my only assumption is that rogers took too long of a time and decided to give telus a more exclusive launch...if i was samsung, i'd be pissed with rogers too lmao
or perhaps the lte version is not ready on samsung's end?
actually, i think what rogers tried to do is spoil Bell's release of the S2 and tell its customers basically "dont switch over we're releasing it too" so that they could keep customers.....

atleast they didnt cancel it!

but im just really happy FINALLY we got some feedback that we've been looking for!

Depends on the defiition of soon. Rogers says just in time for the holiday season I guess that starts after haloween.??  and before Dec.25th  Rogers has been saying soon since last month.
