Missing channels?

I've Been Here Awhile

I just bought a standard digital box and set it up with no issues....that was til I turned on the tv. seems that some of the channels are missing. Not sure if its the signal to the box or something else as the other boxes that are in my home work fine. Any help/input would be appreciated....

Missing or unauthorized channels, can often be a signal issue.

I would give rogers a call and schedule a technician to come out, and they can look at signal strengths, etc.  I would do this pretty much as soon as you can, so just incase it may be a bad box, you would still fall within a return period on it.

Well I guess that's true because I used to get a bunch of channels that I no longer get and yet the bill is the same.

What is the deal Rogers???

Before digital, Rogers put different filters on your cable to prevent you from receiving channels you were not paying for. However, with the advent of digital TV and realignmentof many channels over time, they got lax changing the filters, so many customers ended up seeing channels that were not in their package. I remember in my area when MeTV was introduced with 16 premium channels, we only got 10 of them due to inadequate infrastructure. I didn't subscribe to the packagebecause it was missing Speed TV. Then, when all 16 became available, I ended up getting those others free, including Speed, because Rogers didn't change the filter. Also, when people moved into a new house or apartment, they often got more cable than they were subscribed to because Rogers didn't change the filter. That's because the transition to digital was going on and channel alignmnet was changing and Rogers gave up putting on different filters since to would eventually be all digital anyway.

 

However, if you know you're no longer getting shannels you definitely are paying for, then certainly call Rogers. Then there's another problem. Cable packages are changing all the time and there are many that are no longer offered or advertised. If you have an older, obsolete package, Rogers employees may not even be sure of what you're supposed to get.

That would be the bigest thing.. comparing WHAT channels you get, based on WHAT package you have.

tv channel 504 is missing

 

i do not know why ONLY tv channel 504 is missing ... 501, 502, 503, 505, 506 are all available...

i tried to reboot the tv box and it is still the same channel 504 is missing...

i called technical help and only solution is to reboot the tv box and no other solution offer...

everytime you call technical, it is always the same solution to reboot the box...

any one have a solution to get back the channel 504 for me?...

It happened again last night. Trying to watch the knights game on channel 13 or 510 and black screen. Reboot the reciever again and waited?????  After 2hrs it started to work. Game was almost over. We never had problems until this . navigator updates started. We're paying for a service that isn't working properly and full of bugs. This is wrong Rogers........................................................

"Black" channels are almost always related to a signal issue, either in your home or in your neighbourhood.  Call Rogers and have them check the signal - they can do this remotely, although if they find signal issues, then a site visit is usually necessary.  Also, when this happens, if you can temporarily move the STB as close as possible to the demarcation point in your home as a test, minimizing any upstream splitters, etc, then that may also be an indication.

 

A marginal signal may sometimes be resolved by rebooting, however, as you noted, it's not really a satisfactory solution.

"Black" channels are almost always related to a signal issue (no its not)

The tech was here yesterday for about 1hr. Checked everything and no problems with anything. He said its a very common problem thanks to the new navigator beta software. Nothing he can do until Rogers finds some better programmers and fixes this mess.

Missing TV Channels 3-7 during the evening

 

Hello,

 

Has anyone else experienced channels 3-7 disappearing during the hours of 6pm to 7am? It initially started with one channel missing but lately the list of channels have been growing. Any feedback or insight in the matter is appreciated.

These sorts of issues are almost always related to a low signal strength in your home or in your neighbourhood. Give Rogers a call and have them check your, and your neighbours' signal.  Here's a pertinent link:

You may also wish to reboot the box by unplugging it for a few seconds, plugging it back in and waiting for the reboot to finish. You can also check the connections on the cable feeding the box at the box and at the wall. Do you have other boxes in the home?  Are they working OK?

Some Channels now Missing

 

This past week my TCM, DTour and other channels are now "Not available. Try again later."  I have rebooted the digital box but nothing changed.  Any ideas??

@surlie : Please see post 12 of this thread, to which your post was likely moved, regarding signal strength.  I see you've already rebooted.

 

The message on your screen indicates that the return signal from your box is not getting through to the Rogers Head End.  These sorts of signal issues can also usually affect your search functionality as well as on-demand.

Not sure if this is the case for anyone one else but I got a didgital box from a friend and plugged it in after calling Rogers to get authorized on my account I was getting fewer Chanels then my other three boxes for example channel 30 tsn. Shows up on three other boxes but not this one as well as velo channel 534 The tech said I needed to have a tech visit. To which I said no that doesn’t make sense. It’s one cable that comes into the house it can’t have different channels than the other three. So I start thinking about it and I go into settings and was looking at the favourite channels setting when I notice the hide channel setting as I start surfing through it I realize the channels I am not getting have been set to hide by the previous owner. Easy fix is to select hide all ( then deselect it) and it will hide none. Bingo all the channels I expect

@jhoganson  : Good suggestion. One other suggestion when you get a new box is to always go to Settings - scroll up one to Troubleshooting and do a Factory Reset.  You can then set up the box the way you want.

@57. I had actually done that with the tech. Which is why I was surprised to find the channels still hidden.

Not a reboot, but a Factory Reset. It's different and should remove all settings like favourites, hidden, etc...

Did something change about Joy 10 and Faith channel? they now both show-up has unsubscribe. We've been having those channels for many years. I don't watch those channel (I'm not religious), I just notice them when channel surfing.

I recently lost some channels on PVR i have 47 and 49 but lost 48 for example. We have 2 boxes and it is only happening on one box? I did  reboot  with no success.

@Paul2009 : 1. Are you seeing a black screen on the TV or "not authorized".  If the former, you likely have a signal issue to that box.  Different boxes and different locations in the home can encounter issues if there are signal problems. Call Rogers and have them check the signal to your home, neighbourhood and to the individual boxes.  They can do this remotely.  See the following post on the topic:  I recently also had issues with TCMHD (48) and it was signal related - Rogers had to replace an old splitter at the demarcation point in my home which Rogers installed quite a few years ago.

2. If you see "not authorized", then Rogers has inappropriately provisioned one of your boxes.  You'll need to call them to get this straightened out.

 

3. If you see "not available, try again later", then there's an issue with your return signal to the Rogers node or head end.  The solution will be the same as item 1 above.  See previous posts in this thread for additional discussion if desired (post 12 onwards, etc.)
