4k nextbox

I'm Here A Lot

Every time I turn on my 4K NEXTBOX, I have to go to TV appearance and pick ultraHD TV

and the next time I will turn it on again I will have to go trough the same process.

There is no memory of my settings it always start at 720P.

Any solution?

The 4K NEXTBOX is connected to my AVR that support 4K and then to the 4K TV.

Hello @caddy26

It does support HDMI 2.0. The Rogers HDMI the give u i suppose are HDMI 2.0 but i use the Monster ones so I don't know. Actually when they hooked both 4k boxes they used their HDMI and didn't see a difference

I think ROGERS should pull the plug on 4K and come back when they are ready to offer a product that is working.

again tonight it is not working properly. I wonder if BELL 4K is working better.

Re: 4k nextbox

We are still in the VERY early days of 4K content being delivered via cable (or fiber-optic).  Do you remember the early days of getting HD content via cable?...painful!

Give it some time - it will get better.

Hello @user1961

Pull the plug? Really? Do u remember when 1080p came out? It took years for it to fully develop. Take a breather and wait. It takes time for things to work out. Plus I never had a issue tonight with both my 4k boxes. So i don't know maybe it was ur feed but mine was fine.

I'm starting to get a little annoyed now. I have 5 PVRs that I have purchased and have on my account. I have 2 4K TV and I'm being forced to rent this box at $12.99 a month each. I want to know when I can purchase my 4K PVR because I'm not happy paying $26 a month to rent 2 4K boxes. Bell has 4K PVR already and before I pay $26/month for 2 4K boxes I might as switch and buy the PVRs with Bell. Also the reason I don't have a 3rd 4K TV right now is because I don't want to rent another Rogers 4K non PVR box. If I'm going to spend all this money I might as well spend it on the stuff I want and not be forced to rent a box I don't want. I want a 4K PVR to PURCHASE not rent.

Hello @SnoopDoggLA

Unfortunately at this moment the PVR isn't released yet. The PVR 4K box will be released mid April. Also if i am not mistaken will be only on a rental basis until later date when u can purchase it outright.

Bell jusy started doing rental as a couple days ago. It was only for outright purchase which wasn't great for many actually. I would wait it out and see in a couple of weeks what happens. It should go on outright purchase. The one other reason is due to the limit of the boxes they have. No stores carry them a well.

If they aren't available for purchase when they are released I'm cancelling. I'll have 3 4K TVs by then and before I pay a rental fee that adds up I prefer to spend the money and buy it. By the time the 4K PVR is out I would have spend almost $100 in rental fees for the 2 4K boxes I currently have. I prefer that Bell has the purchase option and even an option to rent for $0 if you have 3 services with them. I have a total of 7 TVs in my house, internet, home phone, cell phone. I pay a lot as is because I have a lot of add ons. Having no option to keep my bill down because of rental fees is forcing me to look at other options. Especially since Bell offers a $0 option for the 4K PVR

Hello @SnoopDoggLA

Depends on the bundle you receive. I called in for just Cable and Internet but their 4K PVR rental is $12 if u get a bundle per box for thay one. Which is better in my eyes. Seeing as i am only paying $12.95 for the 4K box which isn't PVR. Now when April hits and thr new PVR comes out it will be $24.95 most likely so am extra $12 ontop.

It all depends on what Rogers brings out but I see what u mean as i have checked out their pricing as i might end up switch due to the amount I am paying which is alot as well. ( my Fiancé wants to switch due to the amount)

I've Been Here Awhile

So I got the rogers 4k next box today, and so far so good.. just a few questions for you guys.. it doesn't seem to matter what channel I watch, my tv (when I press info on my LG remote) says my tv is in 4k mode.. (2160p).  I watch channel 999 998 997 and go back and forth to channel 22 (1080 is 22 and 900 are my 4k channels) I notice zero difference in picture quality asidea from my 4k box having a blue light on it saying "4k". Is it maybe my hdmi csbke, is the video card in the 4k boxes upscaling everything, or is the tv doing it or am I just not getting true 4k coming into my home. I have the LG 65 INCH UF6540 (model number)

I don't have 4K, so maybe someone who does will chip in on the subject. How far away are you sitting from your 65" TV? I have a Samsung 50" TV and sit about 12 feet from it. At that distance there's not a huge difference between HD and SD and I can't tell the diffrence between 1080i and 720p. Ideally I should be sitting 7-10 feet from the screen to enjoy the full benefit of 1080 resolution.  If something appears on the screen, like a note or a text message on a cellphone, I have to pause and get up closer to read it.  According to this chart, you need to be 6-7 feet from a 65" screen to see the full benefit of 2160p. Of course a lot depends on the focus, lighting and subject matter of the original content.

Hello @caddy26

I have a LG 65inch 4k OLED in my living room and a 55JU6500 in my bedroom. I can see the difference. The TV'S do upscale the 1080i feed to close to 4K but not much. Also the HDMI cables do this trick as well.

My parents have the LG 65 6540 in their home and I see it as well.

Hi,

I am growing tired of switching back and forth from our PVR input to our 4k box input and am debating returning the 4k box until Rogers comes out with an all in one 4k PVR.

Any word on when this is happening? In all honesty, the 4k channel(s) look amazing but the lack of content at this stage isn't worth the $12.95/month for the 4k box IMO.

Hello @Dimundz88

Last from what i heard was starting of Summer. The manager i spoke to told me that they got a on a conference call and they got told it's going to be pushed back until starting summer. ( So June i believe). He said it was due to the new Navigrt update which they need to perfect before releasing the box

So it looks like this thread kind of got away from what I posted earlier. BUT I did want to share that I have semi-resolved the issue. If I turn off/on my equipment in this sequence, 4K Box>TV>Receiver, it always starts in 4K. I have a Harmony remote that is programmed this way, and it always seems to work.

Hello dfarrow5

Well the thread was made by another user about the 4K box so everyone is asking different questions about it which is allowed. Sorry if no one answered ur question..

Not bad at all. I had a customer at my work get a Onkyo Receiver and did the same with the 4K box. It seems to be a issue on their end which hopefully gets resolved soon.

if i upgrade from HDnextbox to 4K box, i will get some channels in 4K!, but how about the rest, are they gonna remain in HD?, or its going to downgrade?!

Hello @Mustangv6

All channels will remain in HD. Only channels 994-999 are in 4K. Those are the sports channels which Blue Jay, Raptors and Maple leafs are broadcasted in 4K in home games.

Unfortunately it all depends on each broadcasters to upgrade their systemsand cameras to 4K. Rogers has no control over this.

You will receive 4K only on the channels I listed above and HD on the rest of the channels which broadcast in HD. The rest that don't are in SD.

Clarification:  In the same way that SD transitioned to HD with eventually almost all channels being available in HD (15 years later), HD may transition to 4K, adding more 4K channels as broadcasters add equipment, etc.  So, years from now, there may be many more 4K channels.

However, keep in mind that the SD to HD transition brought huge benefits in picture quality, while the transition from HD to 4K is not nearly as beneficial, depending on the size of your screen and viewing distance.

Hello @57

The user was talking about changing the boxes now and for the channels to change, not in 3-4 years lol. That will happen but the user was asking if Channels would stay or change over.

I won't get into the debate that 4K UHD is not nearly denifical as it is but to each their own. I can see on a 55inch that 4K UHD is 10 times better and even on my 65inch. Yes where u sit and how far u sit also plays at as well.

Yes indeed there will be more 4K channels but it all depends on the broadcaster when they release the upgrade to their systems to show 4K and what cameras they use. Just like CP24 is only in 1080P but I'm pretty sure they can change to 4K. It's the cost that's behind it.

Note also that the 4K box is not available as a PVR version at this time, so if you want to record shows, the current one is not for you.

Hello @OLDYELLR

That is correct thus why i have mentioned it many times on this thread and on the last page :). The PVR 4K box is supposed to be release before summer. This is what a manager showed me during his conference calls
