Last night my packet loss was so high I couldn't even post here. Today,
the packet loss is low enough that I can post, but still pretty poor.

Did a litte bit more debugging on this using tcpdump and pinging my
computer from the cloud. It appears that the packet loss is
uni-directional, that is, packets from my home are being dropped, not
packets from the internet.
Packet loss still bad this morning. My SMC gateway is in bridge mode so
I attached a computer directly to it and got a second public IP in a
different subnet, however, the packet loss is about the same on the

I am also seeing this issue. At first I thought it was my modem firmware
(SMCD3GN), however, now I suspect it is a contention at the Rogers CMTS
i.e. the CMTS is having problems because it is over-subscribed.

I am now starting to think that this is really a mis-configuration or
resource contention problem in the CMTS rather than my modem. The
problem went away for a several days, now it is back. I don't think
anything changed in the modem.
In bridge mode you can still access the web-gui at http://192.168.100.1
however, you will have to MANUALLY setup the IP address in your PC
(because in bridge mode the the SMC does not dish out private DHCP). So,
