We received a letter today saying we need to replace our TV box by June 16 and if we don't make arrangements to do so by then our TV service will be removed. Very threatening! Did anyone else receive this letter? Is it legit? No info about this on our account and given the tone of the letter we are very sceptical.

The old TV boxes are being phased out, why would anyone want to continue using them with potential to have the service stop working abruptly?
Digital TV hold-out who does not want to switch to Xfinity and/or lose all recordings on their PVR?
I don't know what was in the notice that @cmeri received. No retails were shared in the initial post and I cannot find any information online. Given the June, 2025 timeframe, it's also possible that this could be related to DOCSIS 4.0 transition plans.

@cmeri Are you a Digital TV customer?
Rogers sent a similar notice to customers last year who had old cable boxes that they could no longer support.
As far as I know, Rogers has not (yet) publicly set an end-date for their Digital TV service but they will have to at some point. Perhaps this is the beginning of the end.

The letter specifically says TV box and we got a new one when Shaw switched to Rogers so it's not that old.

@cmeri What model TV box do you have? Are you a legacy Digital TV subscriber or do you have the Xfinity TV service?
Shaw has a support page where they list the set-top boxes that are due to be retired and those that are no longer supported: https://www.rogers.com/support/tv/shaw-troubleshooting/about-legacy-tv-box-upgrade-program
There are also areas where all legacy set-top boxes will be retired and only the Xfinity TV service is offered: https://www.rogers.com/support/tv-streaming/shaw/legacy-tv-box-upgrades-in-calgary-edmonton-and-vanc...
Presumably this will be expanded to more and more areas, and perhaps this is why you got the notice.
If you are an Xfinity TV customer, with either Xi6 or XiOne set-top boxes, perhaps you are getting upgraded to the new Rogers Xfinity Stream set-top box that runs Entertainment OS.
I wish I could tell you more but this is a user-supported forum and I do not work for Rogers. Even though I am an RE, we rarely get updates from Rogers anymore about any upcoming changes or known issues; we rely on our own detective work, industry knowledge and experiences as Rogers customers to help others here as best as we can.
