Im not sure if the ports on the nb3 are active, so I'm not sure you'll be able to connect it.

Which ports?

How can one tell without opening the HD box?

The rear panel is shown here. The external HD connects to the eSATA port.

@YtanyaY

Perhaps the Rogers support page on installing a PVR extender will help.

Possible progress:

I am at the format step (or perhaps I (or it) did the format b/c just now I got message stating "a PVR extender is attached to ... to remove unplug first ..." I have not rebooted yet b/c I don't know how long it takes to format the drive (1 TB)

Do you think it is time to reboot?

I will await any help before proceeding.

THANK YOU!

Re: Nextbox 3.0 (9865 HD)- Installing PVR Expander

I could not wait! Too excited!

So I rebooted and when the time was on the box, I hit “LIST”. It shows the space available as a continuum - i.e. I HAD 89% recorded on the default PVR disc; now (with the extender) 39% is recorded.

QUESTIONS:

I do not know whether the math works out: (Don’t recall the size of the default PVR disc) but the extender is 1 TB.

  1. Could someone verify the math?
  2. I don’t seem to have a choice as to whether I use the default disc or the extender disc?
  3. Finally, short of recording 11% (i.e. the remainder of the default disk) I cannot say whether the extender will actually record and playback or will give errors and / or be scrambled?

Any input would be GREATLY appreciated!

In the meantime, I thank EVERYONE who replied (also in the past e.g. Gdkitty) Special thanks to OLDYELLR and to roxandtreez for the VERY HELPFUL links.

The only info I could offer from my possibly successful install is that I went EXTREMELY SLOWLY - I.E. I let the time stay on the LCD for about 45 minutes.... etc.

THANKS AGAIN!

Re: Nextbox 3.0 (9865 HD)- Installing PVR Expander

Late jump in since most others answered the main stuff already.

My GUESS is that the recordings are LINEAR..  There is no option for drive 1 or 2... it just does it on its own.
It sort of makes it as one LARGE one as far as i am aware.. just goes over to 2 when needed..

Only reason i say this.. up until this week, my extender has been on there for a LONG time, with no issues.
Had a major download/reboot a few days ago.. no whenever it reboots, its asking me to FORMAT my extender.
(i have not done so yet)

BUT it looks like my free space has dropped  (larger amount used) Smiley Sad so guessing its NOT connected.

BUT its still showing all my recordings.  I have yet to run into any recording that DOES NOT play..

So my guess it all stays on the PVR, unless it NEEDS to roll over to the extender.
