Just traded in my 2.0 for the new 3.0. After setting up the new box it comes up with a new Tv user guide. The new guide is considered " Modern user Guide" which I totally don't like. I much perfer the "Classic User Guide" which I consider more user friendly.
Does anyone know if there is an option where I can switch the new 3.0 to the "Classic" guide? Thanks in advance for any help. Jim.
Solved! Solved! Go to Solution.
What do you mean by 'classic'...do you mean the old SARA guide from the 8300?
While you could roll back to the SARA guide on NB 2, you needed to call Rogers to do it.
I doubt Rogers is going to roll you back to SARA on NB 3.
There is no rollback on the NB3.
The SARA guide, that the 8300 and the NB2 had, were a just BARELY modified version of the STOCK OS from cisco for it.
The NB3 is completely different. WHile i beleive it does have its own 'stock' guide, rogers isnt dealing with it at all this time around.
The NB2 and NB3, with the newer IPG, has a copule of 'skins' per say.. modern and classic. Changes the LOOK a little, but overall, the core functionality of how the box works, is the exact same... will not be like back to the ways the 8300 did it, etc.
I traded up to the Nextbox 3 yesterday and have wasted countless hours connecting and trying to find the user guide for "modern" view. NOTHING AVAILABLE!!! Two telephone calles yesterday finally told me I cannot connect my VCR or DVD player to the new N3. The red/black configuration of the "modern view" is really unsatisfactory and the text is very small. I have a 42" TV and can't read the writing and my aspect button on the remote does not make the print larger. I am very unhappy with your website, instructions and confiburation. Give us back the classis view.
Unfortunately they can not give back the old view on this one, as stated before.
The old one, SARA, was the manufacturer DEFAULT 'os' for the box so to speak. This box does not have that as an option at all, it was not created for it.
I beleive there IS some form of it.. though i have never seen images of it, only read about it in CISCO documentation, but its an HD menu and likely smaller text as well.
I feel your pain! I bought the Nextbox 3.0 on Dec 27th and returned it the very next day. No user manual whatsoever! What moron decided to switch the guide to small white text on black background? Most people, myself included, can't read such a display - the text blurs too much. I couldn't even figure out how to schedule recordings of my favourite shows like I could on the PVR 2.0. This is supposed to be an improvement??? I've tried looking for a user manual as well but haven't had any luck at all.
Unfortunately there really isnt a manual 😞 It would need to be a rogers manual.. the only ones existing out there, are generic for the box itself.. more connection, etc..
the best there is out there, is
The new guide is HD, so much like a higher resolution on your monitor.. it will make stuff generally sharper, it makes them smaller. On not an overly large TV.. it can almost be TOO small then 😞
If you have/had any specific programming questions.. you can feel free to ask here and we can try to answer.
The NB2 are being forced to the new guide as well now.. so only way to really have the old guide, is via olding the OLDER pvr boxes.
Personally, I think everyone would be much better off just buying a refurbished 8300 PVR box from the Shopping Channel - at least until Rogers decides to provide a Nextbox that actually works the way customers would like it to! Nextbox has been a disaster!
Everyone is entitled to their opinion.
Other than one or two of the issues with the HDMI on the NB3 (CEC and some loosing DD5.1 until a reboot).. this box has been great box.. blows performance of the other boxes out of the water.
Display of how the guide is, etc.. is personal opinion.
I personaly, can not stand the old guide, on a 60+" TV.. it is so big and blocky, its difficult to read. But again, thats my opinion.
I went through 5 8300s in 4 years... personally would never go back to those boxes. But others have had great success of them lasting a LONG time.
Everyone needs to make their own call on which guide/box they like/want.
(though i would exclude the NB2.. and say 8300 or NB3)
It is at least nice to hear that you have had success with NB3. I have read on other forums though that for some, NB3 has been a horror show. Some posters are already on their third or fourth box and it only came out this past summer. For me, that would be unacceptable. I have also read posts from people who would love to have their old 8300 PVRs back, but since Rogers is no longer distributing these, the Shopping Channel does represent a viable alternative to pick one up for around $160, which is a pretty good deal!
