And security system specialists ToS's say the exact same thing.  They will never 100% guarantee anything.

Just pointing out some definitely go farther than others. It's a whole different company attitude when your sole business is the security service you need to provide reliably eg: http://www.adt.ca/en/home-security/why-adt/adt-guarantees
Yea I know, this post is total "Hogwash"

Re: Rogers Home Monitoring - Q & A Thread

True.

At least, the regular terms of service, doesnt apply to smart home monitoring (not one of the items in it).

I am having issues finding their terms of service online though for it.. i know i got a digital copy when i signed up.. just cant find that email either at the moment 😛

when/if i can find it.. i will see what guarantees it has.

Re: Rogers Home Monitoring - Q & A Thread

Oh, and I forgot about 7) The system REQUIRES a dedicated Router, in addition to the Cable Modem Router already supplied by Rogers, and the router I keep to run our somewhat complicated home network (with 8 children, boyfriends, girlfriends, computers, tablets, phones, game machines and WiFi televisions....you get the picture). This was also not discussed prior to install!

They have more switched over to the extra router, to facilitate that people could switch their gateway with no re configure needed for the system and also allows for usage/setup on non Rogers Internet.

Though yes this should ALL have been told to you ahead of time. 😞

How do I set up or change how the monitoring system sends me notifications? Example. .. text and email etc.

Re: Rogers Home Monitoring - Q & A Thread

go to

http://smarthome.rogers.com

And login with your myrogers which is associated with  your account.

Click on the security heading, then security rules.

Then the ADD RULE

From there, you need to choose what type of thing you want.. Say.. EVENT.. so on alarm unlock, send me an email/sms

first box, choose security system, next box choose disarmed, third box choose email or sms

(so for example, you could choose FRONT DOOR, and OPEN for the first and 2nd box.. and it would send it to you, ANY time the door is OPENED for example.. you can make the event choices that flexable.)

You can even choose a time range.. so it would only do it between certain hours, otherwise it wont message you.

To have it send the email or SMS, you need that person to be defined in the Security > emergency dispatch area.

Re: Rogers Home Monitoring - Q & A Thread

Just a recap I had the SMC original touchpad.
If the net went out, often had to call as the unit was not auto re connecting, as well as noticed some real sluggishness.

Called in and they sent a tech out. Almost all replacement units are the new technicolor ones.
Was relatively painless for him to switch. While the bracket etc is different, the config part was easy. They are actually able to copy the config to Rogers side, then drop it down to the new one.

New pad is 10x more responsive. Also has more app options and audio stuff (radio, audio news, etc)

Re: Rogers Home Monitoring - Q & A Thread

Just to amend to the above post.

I have the SMC gateway.. the ONLY one that really doesnt need to have the netgear installed.. i think due to the ability to have the hidden SSID for the sec system.

one of the issues i would have after a internet big dropout, when the gateway had to be rebooted or power loss.. would be the old pad would not connect automaticaly.. it would SEE the connection, signal strength good.. but not connect.
Usually they would come in, and just change the SSID to a different one.. and then it would connect fine.  Odd.

Glad to say.. with the new pad, no issues re-connecting.

With the BIG power outage in the north GTA last night.. internet was down from sometime after 10pm with the power outage (not sure the exact time, as my gateway is on a UPS, so would have gone an hour + past this). Did not come up till 5:30 am.
So durring that time.. the pad reported loss of power, and then loss of internet.  As it should.

With the power back on at 5:30, by 6am when i checked.. the internet was obviously back up, and the pad had auto connected no issues.

So likely this technicolor pad, is better OVERALL in terms of how it connects, etc.

General review of the technicolor PAD.

Faster, MUCH faster than the SMC one.
Higher resolution screen.
1-2 more apps than the SMC.  Mostly audio related.

Has Tune In Radio (web radio).. as well as on the 680 news app, can listen to the news feed.

Re: Rogers Home Monitoring - Q & A Thread

Don't get the home monitoring... I've had it for over a year and all it does is fail and cause problems.  And no I don't feel secure at all.  After two months the equipment failed, it took the "24/7" monitoring over 2 hours to figure out that I was completely off line.  Then it took weeks to get them to come and take their defective touchpad and then they forgot to re-program the remote so I had to wait for them for even more days.  I told them that their product doesn't work and they offer absolutely no support and their response to me was that even though I don't think that it works that I would have to pay a $600 cancellation fee for their no-service...  So don't get the this system... it goes off line a lot... no one is monitoring anything and the sometimes the alarm goes off for no reason whatsoever or sometimes it's on but triggers nothing... makes me feel safe... NOT!!!  And unlike the other products this one has no service... 😞
