As I said in an earlier post, Rogers has no value added features to offer to us anymore for signing onto their services
A few service features, like Roam Like Home (you can get similiar from any company, although pricing and options may differ), stream saver is unique, but you can manage streaming on your phone and apps. All video media streaming apps have options to set use of streaming to WIFI only, or to a chosen media quality, and the gameplus is available to any Rogers customer on the Rogers App, and just giving access to Rogers owned media and teams. I don't know what advantages it offers, but I don't think this is what people are thinking of when they speak of value added services.
The only remaining value added service at this time of Netflix subscription is for a new customer on Ignite TV or a current customer adding more services and upgrading to Ignite TV, their new IPTV TV, modem and phone and home security model all IP based, but is still new not fully developed. It only went public a month or so ago beyond the soft launch, and is still being debugged as people will see if they search the forums for Ignite TV and it has no discounts, just the raw services.
So we are now in a period where it actually is much easier to compare company and service features with other offerings internally and externally and make a choice.
I am sure there are some who will make the choice to move on with the removal of these various value added services as described above. I took advantage of Shomi, and they did add Superchannel to replace it, but that is gone in September on my account, so that whole value added feature is both dead and the replacement gone with no alternatives being offered. I watched the NHL options a bit, have never had any interest in Spotify or Texture.
I still don't have share anything plans, and never did even when the value add-ons were available. The core service and my price point determines what I buy, but I am sure that the add-ons kept some customers, or brought some to the service.
So now, Rogers appears to be competing, product to product, and depending upon where you live, if you have FTTH in various locations around Ontario and the east, you now have 1.5 GB down and close to 1.0 up, Fibe TV with its options, and there is also phone plans each to be compared on price and features available. In FTTN areas, or DSL, Rogers wins on the Internet side, can offer the Ignite TV and people can do comparison of their desired price and options.
So time will tell how this new process of minimal promotions, no value added services and feature sets standing on their merits and price only will fly.
This seems to be the new Rogers model of moving forward.
Me, I am still on basic cable, low Internet, a home phone, and individual phone plans, no data on one and a price I can afford, so these changes were never available to me anyway, but for each person, feel free to be heard on your point of view, make your choices and find companies and services that best meet your needs.
Now, we just have price, and marketing comparisons to weed through, and when unsure, you can always research the differences available to you and come hear and ask. Lots of people can tell you the pros and cons of various services - most members who have been around for a long time and are knowledgeable can help you weed through the marketing comparisons and hype.
Looks like Rogers is offering NHL Live with Ignite bundles now:
For: Customers with select Rogers IgniteTM bundles.1
Customers with a Rogers Ignite 30 or above bundle can enjoy a FREE 12 month subscription to Roger NHL LIVE™.1
Live stream national, in and out-of-market games on your smartphone, laptop or tablet.
Plus, Rogers customers get access to GamePlusTM2 features you won't find anywhere else.
Why not for Share Everything customers that have been getting this (and/or Texture and/or Spotify) for the past couple of years.
I was told via online chat that NHL Game Center was no longer being offered when I was negotiating my expiring Internet + TV bundle, low and behold I received a copy of my renewed offer in the mail yesterday and it clearly said I WAS getting NHL Game Center. FYI I have a Rogers Ignite 500u and Premier TV. Guess we'll see what happens in October when I try to access the games.
The other thing is that I signed up for Rodgers share everything because of the NHL deal...it’s seems to me they have gone back on the deal ...and at no time was I informed by Rodgers that the NHL package no longer available! Try and and cancel your contract with Rodgers and they send in the army,,,,I’ve been with Rodgers for 10 years and this is how they treat a loyal customer...
Obviously no one in the Rogers front office reads or is aware of this discontent amongst their subscribers. If they were, you would think they would do something. Or maybe they don't care.
I wish the moderators of this "community" would pass these concerns on up the line to someone that can make a policy change. Rogers has to remember that, in this day and age, there is a lot more choice out there for entertainment. If they turn their back on loyal customers, those customers will go elsewhere.
The age of cable TV is coming to an end. I can pretty much stream whatever programming I want, including sports. I do not need cable TV to do this anymore. And if Rogers argues that you will still need an internet connection to access that content, they are correct. But I can find much cheaper, faster, more reliable internet access elsewhere as well.
Rogers, it's about time you listened to your customer base, or you may not have them for much longer. I wonder what Ted would have said.
Promotional content running all day on CH 368 DTV & 430 Ignite TV until January 19th @ 9PM
