Hey Community,

Great news! Rogers began rolling out automatic band steering technology to select modems to optimize and simplify home WiFi performance.

We’ll be adding automatic band steering to the following modem models:

  • Hitron CGN3ACR WiFi Modem With AC
  • Hitron CGN3ACSMR WiFi Modem With AC
  • Hitron CGN3AMR WiFi Modem With AC
  • Hitron CGNM3552 WiFi Modem With AC

This feature is already enabled for the Rogers Ignite Modem (Arris XB6) included with Ignite TV bundles. We plan on also adding band steering to the Gigabit WiFi Modem in the future.

Benefits:

  • WiFi simplified: No more confusion! There’s only one network name and password to remember.
  • WiFi optimized: The modem does the work of selecting the best band (2.4GHz vs 5GHz)  in real-time based on your device capabilities, the available signal strength and the traffic load on a given band.

Points to remember:

  • If you have WiFi devices that are set up to automatically connect/remember your previous network names and passwords, you will need to update your device settings to your new single band steering network.
  • Other factors can affect WiFi performance, such as your device make and model, whether you’re running other apps or devices in the home at the same time, signal interference from microwaves and other electronics, as well as building materials and layout for your home.
  • Band steering is available today, but you must enable it by logging into 192.168.0.1 admin portal or using MyWiFi app on a supported modem. After the roll out of this firmware, band steering should be automatically enabled after a modem factory reset OR as part of self-installation or tech-installation.
