I believe that most newer phones go into "standby" automatically after a certain period of inactivity. I can set my "auto-lock" to 0.5, 1, 2. 3, 4, 5 minutes or "never".  I have mine set to 5 minutes, but I often hit the power button to put it in standby earlier if I've just used it for something.

 

My old flip phone used to hold a charge for about a week in "standby".  I now have that flip-phone, without a SIM, sitting in my car and "off" in case I need to call 911, which is all it will do.  It'll still have 80% charge after 2 months "off" in the car.  Sorry for going a bit OT.
