vivo iQOO Z9 Turbo Endurance No 5G in Rogers Wireless

iceball
I've been here awhile

I purchased the new phone with China ROM and it supports :
4G : 1, 3, 5, 8, 28, 34, 38, 39, 40, 41

5G : 1, 5, 8, 28, 41, 77, 78 SA/NSA

looks like it should be working with Rogers 5G network .

However,  I only can connect 4G LTE.

If I change the network type to NR only, it show me :
Data Services: Suspended

Data Network Type : NR_SA

Data Raw Registration State: NOT_REG_SEARCHING_EM

If change network type to NR/LTE,

Network Type: LTE

Data Raw Registration State: HOME

NR_STATE(NSA): NOT_RESTRICTED

NR Frequency : UNKNOWN

Just wonder what exact the reason for my phone for using Rogers 5G and if purchase another non-Rogers phone, what should I consider?  N66? Global ROM?

Thank you so much

ERic

Hello, @iceball.

Welcome to our Community, and thank you for your post!

I appreciate the details you shared about your device. Devices that support more frequencies within a network technology and across different network generations will have access to more wireless coverage.

Also, some services (such as Wi-Fi Calling and VoLTE) might not be compatible with all devices purchased elsewhere, even if they have the correct frequencies to connect to our network.

Please check the support article:

How to verify device compatibility for BYOD Plan - Rogers

Community: Please share your experience with non-Rogers devices.

Cheers,

RogersMoin

Hey RogersMoin

Thanks for the info. I’m a Rogers customer, and honestly, I’m pretty frustrated with how hard it is to get a phone that works properly on your network. Here’s what’s going on:

If I buy a phone directly from Rogers, I have to pay way too much, and there’s hardly any choice—just look at how few models are on your website. But if I try to buy an unlocked phone somewhere else that supports all the right frequencies, my options are either crazy expensive or super high-end phones like the ZTE Nubia RedMagic or Xiaomi 15 Ultra. There’s just not much out there that works.

The worst part is, if the phone doesn’t have N71—the main 5G band here—it’s a complete gamble. Rogers won’t tell us which phones are actually compatible, so I have to buy it first and just hope it works. That doesn’t seem fair.

Why can’t you just share a list of phones that’ll work?

And it makes me wonder—what about tourists? Most of their phones don’t have N71, so how do they even connect to Rogers’ network? If they can get service without it, why block regular customers from doing the same?

Personally, my phone has three 5G bands, but it still won’t connect. What’s the deal? Is N66 enough? Does it need some special features? It’s so confusing.

Rogers has to have a list of approved phones somewhere—why keep it a secret? It feels like you’re making this harder than it needs to be. Customers shouldn’t have to waste money guessing.

Can you help clear this up? I’d really appreciate it.

Eric
