Rogers Frequencies

momotarotaro
I've been here awhile

I'm about to purchase an unlocked AT&T phone with the following frequency band:

  • 2G Network GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
  • 3G Network HSDPA 850 / 1900 / 2100
  • 4G Network LTE 700 MHz Class 17 / 1700 / 2100

I read that Rogers network band are:

  • 2G Network GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
  • 3G Network HSDPA 850 / 1900 / 2100
  • 4G Network LTE 1700 / 2100 / 2600

Will my unlocked AT&T phone have 3G and 4G on Rogers' network?

Thanks

Is Rogers running any 850 MHz LTE in NL yet?

Re: Rogers Frequencies

Hello, @Jor0123

Thank you for posting your query in the Community. Currently, Band 5/Cellular 850 in LTE Network is only available in Manitoba. Please see Message 37 for all supported bands/frequencies.

Re: Rogers Frequencies

I recently purchased an Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro phone, it covers all the bands that rogers uses in my area, I believe.

2G: GSM B2/B3/B5/B8, CDMA 1X BC0
3G: WCDMA B1/B2/B4/B5/B8, CDMA 2000 BC0, TD-SCDMA B34/B39
4G: FDD-LTE B1/B3/B4/B5/B7/B8, TD-LTE B38/B39/B40/B41 ( 255-2655MHz )

I can connect with the phone on LTE, HSPA+ with no problem, if available. Sometimes, if I am in certain area's, the signal indicator drops to 3G .... it shows a decent signal, but no calls or data can go through.

On the following chart, the first WCDMA connection,my phone only indicates 3G and I can not make a call or use data.   When my call attempt is done, it goes back to LTE. Then for the second WCDMA connection on the chart, I am connected as H+, I can make a call and use data.    Whenever this phone connects to CID 31072 the problem happens. When I connect to CID 31075, no problem. These are just examples of towers that I reach from my home. I get the same problem occuring other areas.

Any suggestions on what I need to change on my phone? Is my phone making a kind of 3G connection for some reason, which Rogers doesn't support? I have tried everything I can think of, including custom roms, change Android Radio Menu settings, etc. Nothing seems to fix this issue.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I plan to stick around

Hi,

I have an unlocked Samsung Galaxy S5 SM-G900V running Android 6.0.1.  It was formerly on Verizon in the USA.

When I pop my Rogers SIM into from an old mostly broken Rogers S5 it activates fine, but only 3G - Not LTE.

I found an old thread here that seems to discuss a similar issue...

http://communityforums.rogers.com/t5/forums/forumtopicpage/board-id/Android/message-id/32026#M32026

But when I try the "*#272*YOUR IMEI HERE#" trick mentioned in the thread I see -

USSD Code Running

Followed by "Unknown Application"

Any suggestions?  I want it on LTE and I can't root the phone as I need to enroll it in my company's MDM.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Rogers Frequencies

Background:

I am located in Vancouver.  I am on the Fido network, which I believe is the same as the Rogers network.

From my understanding, Rogers uses band 17, but also has access to band 12?

Fido's website only mentions band 17; I assume Fido has access to band 12?

Wikipedia Info:

Band 12 (700 MHz) = Lower SMH blocks A/B/C

Band 17 (700 MHz) = Lower SMH blocks B/C

Questions:

  1. Would a phone that is only compatible with band 12 not be able to access band 17?
  2. Is it true that band 17 is used because Block A of band 12 has significant interference?
  3. Would a phone that is only compatible with band 12 achieve higher bandwidth AND/OR better reception on the Rogers/Fido network than one that is only compatible with band 17, despite the increase in interference?
  4. Is there any benefit to a phone compatible with bands 12 and 17, versus a phone compatible with only band 12?
  5. If you could choose between a phone compatible with only band 12 or only band 17, which would you choose?

Re: Rogers Frequencies

Hi @waising,

Welcome to our Community Forums!

You have a lot of good questions there but I'm honestly not certain if any of the info I can provide will carry over to Fido's service. I am not trained in their services. You may want to reach out to Fido directly for more info.

While the frequency is 700mhz across both bands, as I understand it, they are not compatible with one another.

The answer to your other question is tricky and difficult to answer because of the way the licensing works in Canada. The "superior" band would be the one that has the most licenses issued and most sites that are active but that info is not readily available. More coverage means you're taking advantage of the 700mhz frequency more often.

If you have a choice, go with a phone that has both bands if your goal is to be on the 700mhz frequency as much as possible.

RogersCorey

Just did a quick glance from Google on the posted bands and frequencies, and there is no reason why you shouldn't be getting the full 4g lte on your phone, but wonder if you have a full LTE supported SIM.

Just a thought.  Maybe someone with more knowledge of the frequencies can help.

Have you called Rogers and asked for wireless tech support - they may be able to assist, but one limitation may be that you do not have a Rogers branded phone - some of them may not support you for that reason, but worth a try.

Will my Huawei P10 Lite work with Rogers LTE network?

Hi I wanted to buy a new phone but wasn't sure if it would work in Canada since its not sold here. On the best buy site the specs say this:

4FDD LTE: Band 2/4/5/7/28 UMTS (WCDMA) / HSPA+ / DC-HSDPA: Band 1/2/4/5/8 GSM / EDGE: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz Secondary SIM card: GSM: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz

However, on other sites theres also conflicting information about the network (although not from seller):

  LTE band 1(2100), 3(1800), 5(850), 7(2600), 8(900), 20(800)

Thanks!!!!

Hello @blbp,

Welcome to the Rogers Forums.

Your Huawei P10 Lite should be compatible with Rogers LTE network. However,  we can't guarantee you that it is entirely functional since the phones you are looking to purchase is not officially supported by Rogers.

You can review the Rogers LTE APN Settings here.

Cheers,

Re: Rogers Frequencies

I was looking at a zoji z7 with these specs ,.will it work ?  2G: GSM 850/900/1800/1900MHz
3G: WCDMA 900/2100MHz
4G: FDD-LTE 800/1800/2100/2600MHz

requency range Band number Protocol
1900 MHz PCS 2 UMTS/HSPA+ 21Mbit/s
700 MHz Lower A/B/C 12/17/13 LTE
1700/2100 MHz AWS 4 LTE
2600 MHz IMT-E 7 LTE

I wouldn't suggest that phone, 3G/HSPA Rogers uses 1900mhz, that phone won't support HSPA on Rogers, and only supports 2 LTE bands. You Need 3G/HSPA to make voice calls/sms messaging.

I've been here awhile

My Phone only supports Rogers 2600Mhz LTE (Band 7).  Is that a problem?

I have a phone that only supports Rogers LTE band 7 frequency (2600Mhz).  My phone does not support the other LTE frequencies supported by Rogers.  Will this be a problem for my phone?   Meaning, is there a chance i could lose connectivity often since it doesnt have the other fallback frequencies?

Thanks for the details.

Hello @ghytytty

Which phone is this? Also yes at times, you will have issues as it won't have another band or network to fall back on and disconnect you from everything. Meaning you won't get service and be stuck until u get that band back.

Does Rogers support UMTS on 850/1900 or is that for HSPA+ Only?

Can u educate me on this.  I have a phone that supports UMTS but not HSPA+ ... it says it supports freq 850/900/1900/AWS but since the protocol is UMTS and not HSPA+ i am wondering if it is supported by Rogers.

And lastly, is HSPA+ faster than UMTS?

Re: Rogers Frequencies

Hi @ghytytty,

What phone are you attempting to use?  I have a feeling it should work, however as @RogersCilio mentioned earlier in the thread, all of the functions may not be 100% compatible.

To answer your other question, HSPA+ is essentially an upgrade to UMTS, so it should be slightly faster.

More information can be found here.

I hope this helps!

Kind regards,

RogersShaun

Nokia 6 band compatibility with Rogers

Hello folks,

So now that the Nokia 6 is coming out in USA, and still no signs for Canada, I'm looking to pick it up scross the border. From what information I found, it is said that the Nokia 6 is fully supporter by T Mobile and partially by AT&T. I checked the bands on the device and they seem to be compatible with 2G and 4G with Rogers, but I would like to have people who knows more about this confirm or disconfirm this. So here are the supported networks by the device:

  • GSM: 850/900/1800/1900
  • WCDMA: Band 1, 2, 4, 5, 8
  • LTE: Band 2, 3, 4, 7, 12/17, 28, 38

I am not particularly interesting in picking up a monthly plan with data on it, so as long as I can text and call and use WIFI, thats fine for me.

Thanks for any help guys.

Re: Rogers Frequencies

@nokia6guy

it should work for GSM/HSPA/LTE on Rogers.

700 MHz Lower A/B/C 12/17/13 LTE

You'll get LTE, but maybe not in all areas, Rogers/Bell/Telus use band 4 as the main band.
