Can anyone please point me to a map to define the local calling area for Ottawa? Seems to be missing from the Rogers webpage.

Thanks

Re: Local calling area map for Ottawa?

I have never seen, from any provider, such a map/chart.

Unfortunately, there is just too much variation possibilities.. to make it dynamic enough.

Easiest way to know?

Enter the numbers in the phone, without a 1 infront of it.  Area code + number.
IF its long distance, it will give you the prompt that you need to dial 1 infront of it... then you'll know if it was.

Updated Solution

Great news you can now check your local calling area from the MyRogers App on your device.

  1. Click the MyRogers App sign  in
  2. Click the wireless number
  3. Scroll to bottom click Local Calling Area

Re: Local calling area map for Ottawa?

What about a 343-998 number.    I was provided this number and now I'm being told it is a Perth Number.  When everywhere else says it's an Ottawa Number.  (most sources copy each other I know)    anyone have a calling area for Ottawa ??

Re: Local calling area map for Ottawa?

You can enter the number you are calling using MyAccount on your phone (sorry, I only knew how to do it on the old, old, old One number that was on BB).  It will tell you whether it is long distance from where you currently at.  That is the only way I know.

I think the post about maps is correct, I haven't seen calling area maps provided by providers in a long time, not since the days of only landlines.

I have occasionally seen maps with some providers, but not for a while.

You can often get the information through a google search though.

Got me.  Can see your confusion - sorry, don't have an answer - it took a number of long distance call charges for me to ultimately figure out my areas - and I still get confused.

Re: Local calling area map for Ottawa?

I just looked at my wifes pay go  account and see she  got charged for receiving a couple long distance calls  while being outside our local calling area .  She was standing in our kitchen which up until a couple years ago was well  IN our LCA . I went and read the Rogers blurb about  where your LCA is .  What a line . It would be so much more honest of them to just say ,  there really is no defined LCA, it all depends on which tower your signal bounces off.

Whether they calll it perth or ottawa  really doesn't matter if your signsl  bounces off the wrong tower you're outside your LCA.

Re: Local calling area map for Ottawa?

Kind of like being on the border, and Rogers is notorious for having weaker signals on their towers, or spaced out in odd ways such that we bounce back and forth off US towers.

When I have called in on this one, I have sometimes been told, check who your signal is with before using your phone - not an easy task when you are driving along the the Niagara River, or in our case on a charity bike ride, with your phone stuffed in a waterproof bag in your back pocket.

So I guess we are supposed to check each call when we think we may be outside our local calling area with the search on our phones, and check for what network we are on.

Been through both of these a few times - and yes, LCA is only as accurate as the signal strength from their towers.

Still doesn't answer where generally the local areas are, which I am sure could be provided.
