Xfinity Streaming App service for $25

jayrabbit
I'm here a lot

I have questions about this service.

Does it offer on-demand content or just the live channels?

Does it stream in 4K with HDR (depending on the broadcast quality)?

On your website it says it includes CityTV and AMC. Does it include access to CityTV+ and AMC+ exclusive content or the apps themselves?

Also, is it possible to get this $25 Xfinity Streaming App TV plan and upgrade the Netflix to a higher tier like Premium? Is it possible to purchase the $25 plan and only the difference in price between the Netflix Basic with ads version that comes bundled, and the cost of the higher tier? Or must Netflix Premium be purchased directly from Netflix without any discount from the Rogers bundling?

I don't subscribe to Xfinity App TV but according to the web site, you get access to both live TV and On-Demand content.

The set-top box can stream in 4K.  I don't think any of the included channels actually broadcast in 4K.

CityTV+ is included.  I don't see any mention of content restrictions on the web site but I cannot confirm either way.  Perhaps the @CommunityHelps team can clarify.

As far as I know, you only get access to content that is broadcast on the AMC channel, not any of the premium content on AMC+.

Yes, App TV customers can upgrade their Netflix subscriptions to a higher tier.  See the following support link for more information:  https://www.rogers.com/support/streaming-entertainment/rogers-xfinity-app-tv/activate-or-change-your...

Yeah I'm looking to use this as a TV solution at a cabin North of Madoc with the $60/mth 5G service off an Amazon Fire Stick.  It probably isn't really 5G service there, but I know someone that says they stream some video over their Rogers phone and it shows 4G connections.  I'm only using a 720p TV up there too.  I asked about this separately in the forums and they said it should be fine.  I do plan to do a bit of computer work up there too but mostly just remote access tech support for clients during the day.  I wouldn't have the streaming TV on at the same time though.

At home I have regular Rogers Xfinity 1Gb/200Mb Internet and a 4K HDR and 1080p TV's so I'd want to get a good picture quality at least there.

I wasn't sure how the channels on the Xfinity Streaming TV compare to just getting them through Prime Video as add-ons, such as getting CityTV+ & StackTV & AMC+ & Netflix Premium separately.  It looks like the Xfinity App stuff has a cheaper bundle all around considering you're saving at least $8 for Netflix with ads.  I'd add Tubi, Pluto, Parrot, Plex, YesTV, TVO, and CBC Gem to the mix.  Probably Crave with their TSN bundle too.  All of these are available on Fire Sticks.

I did some calculations on the cost of running separate streaming services and compared it to my satellite bill and streaming is definitely cheaper, but I wonder: if I subscribe to a conventional full TV service with Rogers, can I stream ALL the channels in my subscription through the app, including Bell-owned CTV channels, or does Rogers only have permissions to stream just their channels, even for the full-featured TV services?  FYI: my current service is with Shaw Direct, and I know that regular CTV local channels and GlobalTV that I subscribe to are no longer available through the Rogers Xfinity (Shaw version) streaming app or website, but the specialty CTV channels like SciFi and Comedy are.

Good morning @jayrabbit!

I would recommend taking advantage of our 30-day satisfaction guarantee to test out just how well our service will work for you at your cabin north of Madoc.

30-Day Satisfaction Guarantee - Rogers

You have nothing to lose by trying it out!

If you do choose to subscribe to our "conventional" Xfinity TV service instead, then there are some channels which can only be streamed while connected to your home WiFi network.
