I Plan to Stick Around

https://mobilesyrup.com/2018/07/05/rogers-unbundling-spotify-nhl-live-mobile-plans/

I talked with a management rep and its true they are no longer including NHL game center in Roger's share everything plans.
Not only as a customer I think it's a dumb idea as I loved having it and I'm sure many canadians loved it as well as were a big NHL country 🙂 but a business standpoint what is Roger's thinking!?!?! This is a major incentive that people choose rogers over other carriers. Also Roger's as the rights to NHL in Canada as a Roger's customer shouldn't we get rewarded with it free or at least discounted, or is Roger's trying to double dip on customers by getting money for our share everything plan and now NHL subscriptions

For the love of GOD please Roger's go back and think about this and re add the NHL back to share everything plans

Re: Roger's no longer including NHL game Center

The rogers nhl live for free was the one thing that kept me with rogers for my last contract. Now that its gone and with the terrible service i have recieved in the past year and a half as soon as my contrat expires i will be more than happy to leave.

Game Center live was the only thing keeping me with Rogers and their disgustingly high prices, and terrible service. I will be switching to a new carrier as soon as possible.

Hi My Name is Reg. I am a Rogers customer. I changed to Rogers because I could get all of the NHL games when we traveled. Now that Rogers has made this silly move to to stop them, I don't think I will be with Rogers much longer.

Reg

Re: Roger's no longer including NHL game Center

Roam like home is not a great perk. Just went to italy and asked cost to keep my phone with Roam at home. $12 per day no exceptions. Telus gave friend a package $100. I bought Italy TIM card $30 euro.
Taking NHL off package makes me plan to jump back to Telus because sacrificing poor signal strength for hockey was worth it but now no perks for poor signal service?
Love to see stats on how many people switch. Will this be a good financial decision? Stay tuned.

Re: Roger's no longer including NHL game Center

I most also agree. Very frustrated when I saw NHL gone this year. Terrible communication by Rogers letting customers know. Moving on to a different provider for the whole family.

No way I'm sticking with Rogers much longer. That's the only reason I've been faithful to a big company that charges high rates.

I've Been Here Awhile
After my previous post and seeing all the people affected by this, I called Rogers yesterday and asked when my contract will expire. The lady that answers took my information to access my account then told me when my contact expires. She then asked why I wanted to know that. I explained that I have been with Rogers for a very long time and that I was planning on leaving to go with another provider because Rogers no longer provides the NHL package with their Share Everything plan. And, with that and poor service, there was nothing keeping me at Rogers anymore. She immediately replied " is there anything else I can help you with today " that's it... it's very clear to me that they just don't care !!

Spectacular!

I paid $200+ last year for Game Center Then moved my 5 phones to Rogers and got Game Center for free. BUt couldn't get any money back from Rogers as I paid thru the app store. So I asked if i could get a half years credit for the following year. There answer was NO cause Game Center is always FREE for Share Plan members............

Guess they lied......  Guess me and my 5 phones will go to bell in 14 months and counting!!

Thanks Rogers

Used the rogers nhl live extensively while at my home in Barbados. No longer a free service. One of the nice benefits of paying ridiculous fees for all their services. Home Dec 5 and will cancel about $1,000 a month of recurring revenue to Rogers. Wireless phones and internet. Not liking for sympathy but not many benefits w Rogers as their cell and internet service is average to poor at best. Nhl was the one one bright spot.

I'm Here A Lot
21 years with Rogers, and no email or text to tell me they were dropping NHL Game Centre.
They aren’t even offering a discount for Rogers customers.
I have had two line for almost half of that 21 years.
One line is off contract now, and the other will be off next September. I will be signing a contract with someone else at that point and taking my $200 a month elsewhere.

I agree. Went and had a chat at the both and also called them this weekend. Tried to either get the package back or they be able to match what other companies have for plans. They couldn’t help so i cancels the plan and now am with Koodo. They will feel the hurt this year I’m sure

Yeah I will definitely be leaving next summer, i won't be sticking around especially now. i love in a good reception area according to the map. I live in grande prairie, AB which should have great LTE and everything coverage however lately i cant even talk to my dam wife on the phone without it breaking up all the time like i have no service. It is constantly getting worse and worse all the time in my town, having issues with internet and calling constantly. Calls dropping that shouldn't and support hasn't been much help and now that I no longer have NHL there is honestly no reason to stick around anymore and with all the horrible service i just can't anymore so one last year to fix all these issues and thats all.

The fact that Rogers hasn't even made the slightest effort to explain their choice or try some sort of customer retention shows how little they value their customers.

Very disappointing decision from Rogers. Who wouldn't be disappointed. They tell you your NHL Gamecenter is included with you plan for 5 yrs and then suddenly its gone.  I guess its the new offer you less for more philosophy. As far as customer retention goes, poorly handled. This is why the CRTC should allow for more competition in the Canadian market concerning cable and cell phone companies. I will be considering other options.

I'll add my 2 cents as well as being another lost customer for Roger's, my contract is up in April and I will be gone shortly after that unless they reduce my bill big time. Contract I signed in April 2017 for 2 years was to include Center Ice for that 2 year span and as of today it no longer works, I feel ripped off, paying a premium price and losing this perk. I have been a Rogers wireless customer for over 20 years, I have had enough!

Re: Roger's no longer including NHL game Center

It's sad that you think the features you offer above are exclusive to you, maybe you should look at the market around you! Game centre and the Spotify subscription are what set you apart. When my contract is up I may be looking for another carrier with cheaper rates but same offerings! Deeply disappointed.

For sure. I think everyone will be. There are better priced plans to choose from and Rogers has shown us how little they value us. The funny thing is I was advertising on Game Centre but have cancelled it since they probably lost 90% of the captive audience that they had. Advertising rates were more than a phone plan by a long shot. If they’ve lost other advertisers, plus all the disappointed subscribers, they stand to miss out on a lot of potential revenue.

The absence of Gamecentre this year has been brutal. I am glad to be out of contract right now in case another carrier picks this up.

Maybe they will begin to catch on, maybe not - the comparison of the advantages on Share plans of Roam like home, manage your data, and streaming management of digital video are nice things to have, but let's do an honest comparison here.

Share plans with roam like home features are available from all the major providers and similiar prices and similiar feature sets - some even give you the choice of a limited data amount per day rather than your home data usage so you are free to use data without impacting your home amount - would have to weigh the balance of add-ons verus the other feature sets, but every company has the same thing - maybe one has more than the other for destination, but it certainly is not unique and does make up for the loss of all the added on features that have disappeared like Shomi, Texture, NHL, Spotify, etc.

Now data management that one I will say is better than the others, but all others give you tips on how best to use their data management tools for monitoring, setting tools on the devices to guide user usage, discuss with users repsponsible use, provide access to the monitoring tools, and how to set things like data restriction on how cell data versus WIFI is used for updating apps, and background use, as well as turning data of when not in use and turn it when needed and monitor usage, etc.

The Rogers approach actually takes what I describe as an authoritarian and lack of trust strategy to your shared users.

My approach was also to set boundaries and consequenses.  When it came to money, it was one strick, you are out and we set up a repayment schedule.  Two strikes, and we begin removing the abused services for a short term with controlled useage and supervision to ensure they understand.  My child once slipped over due to a connection with a new friend and went over text - I discussed it with her, understood how it happened, she knew to check her usage, and had slipped from habit, so we discussed a payment schedule ( As I mention below, I monitor useage of myself and others occassionaly, as we are all human, so I cut the payback in half - I forgot to do my part of the job - we both slipped up - I also included some supervision on the use of the tools available - this goes back to days of limited text message packages).

So for those who want to supervise their other users closely, the data management features are good for that group, for those who trust our users and educate them on over use through teaching and consequences, I have no need for them. I don't need controls - I peak at their useage when I check mine and I discuss with them if their habits have changed and are approaching the limits.  I missed the one above so it was as much my responsibility as mentioned before.

As for streaming - the reduced streaming feature acknlowedges that it doesn't control for all applications, so how we do it (we are down to one account with data - a small amount - and we have always tended to watch via WIFI only, not celllular data.  We can wait - so we set most to WIFI only, and things like WIFI we set it to lowest standard as sometimes a YouTube link shows up on a Facebook.

So we use the more reliable built in features to deal with that feature, and it is a feature that is common to ATT in states, and Rogers, but none others I could find, so it appears they are the only company who feel it is a "selling feature".

So, in my humble opinion, I don't see any advantage to having Rogers, in general over any other company - you are all just cell phone companies with different features and we as a customer must learn which ones we want and what we want to pay - there certainly is very little value added going on with Rogers anymore - getting a costed feature for free as an incentive to join in, or accossaionally in discussion with a rep to reflect your long term loyalty.

I can see why so may people hwo lost these services off their plans when they went Rogers only because of the add-ons, probably hoping that maybe they would continued at some discounted rate over time to make it more marketable.

But since Rogers is still getting customers, and making profits, I guess their short term decision is that it is not impacting their bottom line and retention, so other than those of us who are unhappy with this continual less service for more money and the ongoing claim that they have to increase our costs in order to support the improvements to the future customer demands and service usage patterns, continual unpredictable software like the Apple watch issue, decisions not to support unbranded unlocked phones on various feature sets, and the ongoing phrases of we change our channel listings to better reflect the viewer patterns - all this looks like improve our bottom line, I see little improve my service.

I never have gone with a share anything plan, so never mattered to me, but I did lose the Shomi, which they replaced with mediocre Super channel mix after lots of complaints from customers, and I believe CRTC complaints too through CCTC, I have lost access to the NHL services in the tv packages, BCB discounts have disappeared to name a few - I can see why some people are moving on - it is those add-ons that made it interesting for some to stay and not look elsewhere - now only question is it eonough to impact the bottom line and increase churn to other companies.

Re: Roger's no longer including NHL game Center

I will look to save the amount of an nhl live subscription by switching my families accounts to another carrier. This was one of the reasons I stayed.
