I got an e-mail on one of my e-mail accounts this morning. Interestingly I only got it on one of our accounts, not the other three accounts that my wife and I have.
At first I thought it was phishing, but it appears that people who use certain e-mail clients (like Outlook) will have to reconfigure those clients for a "new password" (app password). Webmail doesn't appear to require the change.
The e-mail states:
Important: You must update your Rogers email account settings.
Protecting your data is as important to us as it is to you. Rogers is making several security upgrades and implementing a new authentication system to further protect you and your data.
Rogers requires you to update your email settings to continue using your email account.
It only takes a few minutes of your time to ensure you have uninterrupted access to your email.

Please excuse me if this is discussed elsewhere. I did try searching and didn't find a thread on this specific topic.

The term "client" has been around for a long time with computers and not just for email. On networks, there is often a server, that provides some function, such as file sharing, email, etc.. The users of those servers are known as clients. The client/server model differs from peer to peer, where the devices have identical capabilities.

Today is March 19th, 2019.
Did you ever find your answer?
I did use T-Bird (60.5.3 (32-bit)) until issues sending, receiving, delays (up to 5 days!), etc.
A Rogers technician used a temp pw to troubleshoot and ever since, I cannot receive nor send email using that Thunderbird sub-account - Only FF (web mail)
Interestingly, my other 2 Rogers accounts (The main and the other sub-account) work.
The only difference between the 3 is I did not change their passwords.
Hypothesis <LOL>: This was the first pw change since the update announcement (which I was told did not apply to TBird). Maybe one has to reconfigure Tbird if one changes the password or similar...?

Unfortunately Rogers does not support TBird...

We know everyone has their own preference when it comes to checking their email and Thunderbird is a great option!
Thunderbird does require an App Password. Here is a list of programs that do require one:
Could I get you to take a peek at our, “Updating your Rogers Yahoo! Email Settings” help article found, here?
It’ll guide you through creating an App Password. Once created, you should be able to plug that into Thunderbird and be on your way again.

i tried following the instructions but they stopped sending apple sone of the information, they want to force you to use their web service.

That's just not true. We have enabled our customers to be able to access their email in a variety of ways.
Which part of the process are you having difficulty with? If you feel like the instructions are not clear, you've come to the right place for help.

@leighhamilton : If you want a new App Password, you need to do that yourself using the instructions below:
https://www.rogers.com/customer/support/article/email-setup See the last dropdown for AppPW instructions.
You then need to copy that AppPW into whatever device (computer e-mail client, tablet e-mail app, Phone app, etc).

@djDiscoDave : That would depend on the e-mail.
1. Is it similar to the one outlined in post 1 of this thread?
2. Is the sender from Rogers? You can usually tell by hovering over the sender's e-mail address, or getting detailed information regarding the e-mail itself - how you do that depends on the e-mail client or webmail service.

The link did not take me to any specific topic.
My issue is with using Webmail on MS Edge with Windows 7.
After I put in the username, the page just hangs forever. Is there an update that fixes this?
