I live in Newfoundland and after much testing I have found that most traffic from Newfoundland routes through Ontario. On the Bell network it routes are much more efficient and if your gaming server is on the east coast it routes through NY which will provide way better ping times.
Only solution is for Rogers to rework traffic to make better routes on the network but alias I don't expect that to happen any time soon

Yes. I work from home and connect to a VPN server in FL. All my traffic routes through Chicago before it hits FL. I had a IT friend with access to the Bell network do a few trace routes to my VPN server in FL and it routes through NY. Some of my work friends have ping times in the 70's while mine is in the 130's connecting to the exact same server.
I guess my point is I can almost say for certain that if I were to do the same for some gaming scenarios it would turn out the same
@Vurog670, ok, its interesting that you ran into the same issue with the 3552, which is a 32 channel Puma 6 modem. Taking a quick look at your signal levels, and signal to noise ratios, they're all good. Point to note, your modem is running DOCSIS 3.1 on the downstream side. If you have the gigabit plan and you're getting somewhere around 930 to 950 Mb/s on a speed test, then you're not affected by the slow data rate issue. My guess is that the Multiple Dwelling Unit (MDU) which provides data services to your building might be running at a fairly high load. Large buildings can have more than one MDU, and its also possible that the MDU that your modem connects to has some type of technical issue. You shouldn't see large spikes. The problem at the moment with the 4582 is that if you ping the MDU to check the return times, you will see spikes that are caused by the modem. Beyond the MDU, you won't see any latency spikes.
Are you seeing packet losses in LOL?
Here's one thing that you can do, and that is to run a UDP DNS query test to the Rogers DNS 188.8.131.52 Have a look at the following post that has instructions to do that. I'm assuming that you're on an unlimited plan, so you can let that run for a day and post the results. That plot should show if you're getting UDP latency spikes throughout the day or not. Fwiw, the 4582 doesn't have latency issues with UDP, ICMP, or TCP/IP. Going thru a heavily loaded MDU or CMTS might be a different matter, but, that won't be caused by the modem.
Hey there, I've been having an issue with my ping, jitter, and upload speed. Ping will stay stable at 30-35ms but then suddenly spike anywhere from 75-150ms. I also tried doing a ping test to google and it shows no packet loss but pings spiking over 100-200ms.
Every game I have tested shows the same results. Tried calling rogers only to be told everything looks good on their end. When doing speed tests, my download is 920-940 but upload is inconsistent, ranging from 10-30 upload. Interestingly jitter is also unstable. One test would show 3ms jitter, but the next would suddenly spike to 60ms jitter.
The modem i have is the CODA-4582

I have essentially the same issues as the post above.
The only real difference is my modem is a Hitron CGNM-3552, which I just swapped a CGN3ACR. I had hoped it might have fixed the lag issues that have been rendering my connection useless for online gaming for the past 3 months.
While the base ping has decreased by 10 or so, but the lag spikes remain. Is it in fact possible to get a steady ping with rogers or is it a lost cause?
I've been experiencing terrible lag when gaming. I've tried everything from swapping my modem to getting a VPN and I am still experiencing the same issues. I have the CODA 4582, software version : 220.127.116.11T2. The lag is a lot more noticeable at peak times, I don't really notice it in the mornings. What can I do, this is driving me insane?

10am no lag at all
