Remote Admin my Rogers Rocket WiFi Modem/Router

I Plan to Stick Around

I got my public IP, and tried to remote admin the modem from outside the home network, and I was surprised to find out that when I browse the public IP, I will be connecting to another device on the same network (one of the devices) such as smart home device or camera ....etc.

Can someone explain to me why? and how I can connect to the modem admin panel remotely (from outside the home network) ?

Thanks,

Tarek

You cant.  Generally it can only be accessed from INSIDE.
Thats more for safteys sake.. so no one outside, say could brute force the password, then make internal changes, etc.

When you go to the public IP, it MIGHT do something or might not.  All depends on the setup.

If there has been any port forwarding done for (or by a device if UPnP is on), it could be have a web server for the device or another service running.. in which your external IP is forwarding to that device

Thank you  @Gdkitty ....

Why you mentioned I can't? Is this due to enforced limitation set on router by Rogers? Or is it a limitation of the router it self?

I quickly checked the various menu options of the router web interface, and it seems there are options for port forwarding and for setting DynDns or something like that.

I will check again to confirm

As per my knowledge, almost every router supports such feature, unless it is explicitly disabled!!!

I will check the settings in details, and will provide my feedback soon.

Re: Remote Admin my Rogers Rocket WiFi Modem/Router

Rogers imposes this on their modems.

While yes i have seen it on many 3rd party ones as well.. its usually a feature that is OFF by default and you need to turn on.
Again, its a sort of security risk.

Port forwarding is where you will want to see if there is anything in there.
And as I said before.. a good idea to turn off UPnP, so devices are not setting up forwarding on their own.

Is it OFF on Rogers routers, and cannot be turned ON? Or I can turn it ON?

What is UPnP?

Got it UPnP

So you mean I have to change the configuration of the connected devices to disable UPnP in order to prevent this strange port forwarding which happened by itself?

One more question please: How I can find out the DHCP range of the auto IP assignment of the Rocket WiFi Mde? I want to setup fixed IP for some devices to make them easier to access. I have to use an IP which is outside the DHCP range of Rogers Modem. I tried to locate such setting, I didn't find it.

Thanks,

Tarek

When I opened the Port Forwarding Tab, I found large number of rules already setup, and I don't know from where they came. See attached image.

Is this normal? I see all kinds of apps including WhatsApp and Skype.

Appreciate your feedback.

I've Been Here Awhile

CGNM-3552 remote access via dynamic IP

Can I access original Rogers modem CGNM-3552  remotely, via its dynamic public IP?

I have setup DDNS service, so  I know its public IP address.
Which port ti use?

Re: Remote Admin my Rogers Rocket WiFi Modem/Router

Hello, @rybshik

Welcome to the Rogers Community Forums! 🙂

I appreciate posting your query in the Community. The remote admin access to the modem is not available for security reasons as indicated by @Gdkitty in the solution post of this thread. Thank you for understanding.

Cheers,

RogersMoin
