Postfix setup issues

Hello,

I'm trying to set up a postfix server at home.

For relay I am using the following settings:

relayhost = smtp.broadband.rogers.com:587
smtp_sasl_auth_enable = yes
smtp_sasl_password_maps = hash:/etc/postfix/relay_passwd
smtp_sasl_security_options =

my relay_password:

smtp.broadband.rogers.com <username>@rogers.com:<password>

When I attempt to send an email I get the following error in my log:

Feb  2 11:51:42 localhost postfix/smtp[17490]: 1D88012452: to=<...@rogers.com>, relay=smtp.broadband.rogers.com[67.195.22.104]:587, delay=0.35, delays=0/0/0.28/0.07, dsn=5.7.1, status=bounced (host smtp.broadband.rogers.com[67.195.22.104] said: 530 5.7.1 Authentication required (in reply to MAIL FROM command))

What am I doing wrong?

Re: Postfix setup issues

Not overly familiar with postfix.. so cant help specifically with its exact settings.

The SSL port for the SMTP, i beleive should be 465

(post fix would have to support sending via SSL)

You have the right host.

Not sure how the postfix sends the user authentication.

user name should be  your email

password your webmail yahoo password

Re: Postfix setup issues

@virzak,

Are you sending from your Rogers email address or using you own domain?

Re: Postfix setup issues

Rogers blocking outgoing SMTP port 25

Hi,

it seems that rogers is blocking outgoing smtp port 25.

Example from postfix :

<-

May 24 20:37:13 atom postfix/smtp[6953]: connect to gmail-smtp-in.l.google.com[173.194.198.27]:25: Connection timed out
May 24 20:37:43 atom postfix/smtp[6953]: connect to alt1.gmail-smtp-in.l.google.com[74.125.192.26]:25: Connection timed out
May 24 20:38:13 atom postfix/smtp[6953]: connect to alt2.gmail-smtp-in.l.google.com[173.194.210.26]:25: Connection timed out
May 24 20:38:43 atom postfix/smtp[6953]: connect to alt3.gmail-smtp-in.l.google.com[64.233.186.26]:25: Connection timed out
May 24 20:39:13 atom postfix/smtp[6953]: connect to alt4.gmail-smtp-in.l.google.com[209.85.202.26]:25: Connection timed out

->

I'll try to use my yahoo/rogers account and relay through yahoo ?

Re: Postfix setup issues

Loux, if you have your own domain then you should use the outgoing server that your domain provided. If you dont have one you will need to obtain one or find some kind of third party provider. Rogers yahoo servers are only for @rogers.com accounts.

Re: Postfix setup issues

Hi,

I'm already using my own outgoing server for my domain ! But rogers is blocking outgoing smtp port 25 ! So, as far as I understand, on rogers we can't have our own domain with our own email server !

1. relay : we can't use rogers as relay (only accept From: with rogers.com domain)

2. no relay : we can't have a direct connection to other servers (blocked by rogers on port 25)

Regards,

Louis
