Hot spot shield worked great last night. Played 6-7 games of LOL. Wont work for me this morning now. Is there a trick to it?

I think the VPN thing isn't a sure fix. Still running into connection issues, and i've now tried hotspot, speakeasy, WTFast and PIA (Private internet access). I have been getting VERY slightly better results (like it takes 4 or 5 retries to get in, in 1/10 games instead of 20+ times in 1/20 games. I think the VPN is a YMMV thing, so take with a grain of salt.
I'm going to when I get the chance see about downgrading to the CGN3 as a fix. I'll update with the results when I get it switched out.

Hey, I really don't know where else to turn since I'm kinda out of options.
I live in Toronto, In the North York area. My internet has been perfect since I can remember , but last week on Tuesday that kinda changed. I'm not the most tech-savy internet person but I try my best.
The problem I've been having is to do with my Ping/Latency on almost everything I'm on. My desktop I'm on is currently connected straight to my Modem with an ethernet cord. For an example, My ping used to be great, I'd get a steady 75 Ping on League Of Legends, and a steady 65 Ping on a TeamSpeak3 server I talk on (VoiceCom program for those wondering).
Then last Tuesday I noticed a spike in my ping for League Of Legends from 75 to 120-150 Steady and it wouldn't drop back down to the normal ping, It was through-out the day so I can't really tell if it's at certain points of the day. I called Rogers around 3-4 times to no previal, just the usual "restart your modem, try speedtest", They even sent out a Tech to check my cables and everything to no hope. I even upgraded to that new Rocket modem which didn't help squat and actually made things worse.
My last call to them was maybe last Thursday and the person I was speaking to said she put in a ticket or whatever which never actually does anything. Then this past Friday I went up North for the long weekend and before I left I turned off my modem and everything connected to it and came back yesterday and checked my ping on League Of Legends and everything else and the ping seemed to be perfect and back to normal, it was like that all day and this morning when I got back on, it seemed to have gone back to being horrible. I honestly don't know what to do anymore or what can be causing my ping to be unstable and spiking constantly, but any help would be amazing because I can't deal with this anymore.
And for those wondering, if I do a speedtest the results are :
Ping : 24ms
Download : 44 Mbps
Upload : 5.26 Mbps
It usually changes everytime I do it, but it's around that. (I think speedtest results are bull, and don't rely on it).

There are two issues going on here, possibly more:
1. The latency to and thru the CGN3 series modem. That is a known problem that Hitron and Rogers are working on.
2. The problem with LOL and the CNG3ACSMR, where the modem is preventing the user from connecting and staying connected to the game server. A work around appears to be the use of a VPN to get through to the LOL server. That may not work everytime, but apparently its better than not connecting at all. This is another issue which Hitron is currently working on.
A temporary solution might be to switch down to a CGN3 modem which does not have 802.11ac capability. The drawback to this modem is that the 2.4 Ghz network will lock down to the slowest device rate of all of the devices connected via the 2.4 Ghz network. The CGN3AC and CGN3ACSMR should connect with all devices on the 2.4 Ghz network at their rated data rates when you take into consideration the signal to noise ratios on the wifi network.
Are you connecting via wired or wireless connection?
If you could, just out of curiosity's sake, log into the modem, navigate to the STATUS.....DOCSIS WAN page, copy the downstream and upstream tables and paste them into this thread, I'd like to see what the cable signal levels are like at the moment. Don't worry about how the data looks after pasting it in, I'll sort it out when I look at it.

This ping issue has been happeneing before I switched to the Hitron model, So i doubt that's the issue here.

Just a FYI: the ping issue indeed seems to be outside the Hitron CGN3ACR mode;; however if you have the new AC modem. chances are you are getting the known issue as well. The known issue generally just kicks you off.
Modem Swap to the CGN3 (Not AC) might be a quick fix but as of now i doubt this will resolve anything... food for thought.

We have a CGN3 in bridge mode with an Asus RT-AC68U behind it and my son plays LOL without any problems, so, yep, the CGN3 does work to address this situation. As I indicated above, there is the general latency issue to and through all of the CGN3 series modems, and the newer issue with the CGN3ACSMR which either will not let you connect, or kicks you out of the game. Hitron and Rogers are working on both at the present time, but there is no eta for a firmware fix.
@Rolopolo, your signal levels, downstream and upstream are fine, so the problem is a combination of the modem and network.
I'm beginning to think however that we need to be talking with a network expert, one who knows what the Rogers peering agreements contain and how they impact on traffic that originates from the Rogers network and travels back and forth to gaming servers. This is well above the expertise and knowledge of the normal ISP tech support staff, and not just Rogers . There are also issues with the gaming companies themselves. From what I remember reading, promises were made to establish an east coast server for Riot several years ago. Well....from what I remember, that server is still under consideration and users are just as upset now over the latency as they were years ago.
Found it, here is the Riot thread concerning latency and the mythical east coast server:
http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/GD/ZllogYWr-na-east-coast-server
So, there doesn't appear to be easy solutions to solve everything unfortunately.

Riot is already working on a fix to solve the latency issues in the east coast. Riot and Rogers are partnered in delivering lower a lower ping to their customers. A couple months ago when they startered the partnership, I started to see a decrease in ping from 90ms to 73ms-75ms. As of now, riot is committed to finish the NA Server Roadmap.

just swap CGN3 Model, and did a quick test of creating 10 custom games
10/10 I was able to connect right away, it is for sure a problem with the modem firmware. I'm not patient enough to sit around and wait for an offical solution. Hotspotshield was working maybe 1/5 times for me. I also had lag inbetween hearthstone turns and now it magically disappeared after switching modems. It's just unprofessional to release a modem that wasn't ready to the public.
Don't waste your time reading any further :
you have two options
1. Downgrade the CGN3ACSMR to the CGN3 Model
2. Wait for an offical solution and make do with (not 100%) methods like Hotspotshield/VPN ETC.
Hope this helps.
So glad to be relieved of this headache. I got thrown down into 20 minute low priority queues on league of legends because I couldnt connect to my games.

Anyone know when they will come out with a fix for this? This is quite frustrating...
