Move Email addresses to another Rogers account

garyjfudge
I've Been Here Awhile

I am relocating and Rogers is not available in the new area. I currently have 7 rogers email addresses (me, my spouse and kids) under my rogers online account. I know when I terminate my rogers service those accounts will be terminated (maybe after 90 days) so I would like to transfer the email addresses to my daughters account (she lives in another part of the city and is a longstanding Rogers customer). Technical support confirmed this can be done with their assistance and my daughter has agreed to host the email addresses. However, Tech Support were less clear if we will lose all existing emails or experience a disruption in service. Here are my questions:

1. We all have many important emails in our email accounts being held on the Rogers servers. We use the browser (versus an Outlook approach) to manage our emails so we do not have emails downloaded/saved on our local devices. Question- when the email addresses are moved from my Rogers account to my daughters Rogers account, will the existing emails, being held on Rogers servers, in our email accounts survive?

2. There is a primary rogers email address associated with my Rogers Service account. Can I move that primary email address under my daughter's Rogers Service account also?

3. Assuming the answer to question 1 and 2 is "yes", will this also be true for the primary email address associated with my existing Rogers service account? (PS I need to move and retain my primary email account also)

@garyjfudge  Community members may be able to share their personal experiences.  However, to get answers to your specific questions, you should send a private message to @CommunityHelps

Even if Rogers says that your email accounts will survive getting transferred to a different Rogers account, I would still try to make a backup of each, just in case.

its possible to move accounts yes a good friend of mine did it back in the day. My advice would be to stay away from isp based email addresses if possible and use an outlook, yahoo or gmail. which are the top 3 in that order

You can probably move the primary e-mail address, however, it will no longer be "primary", it will simply be an e-mail address.   Your daughter's primary e-mail address will probably remain the "primary" so some changes may need to be made from her primary e-mail address.  Also, your daughter will need to have an account that has the ability for all of your, plus her e-mail addresses.  Not all accounts have that many e-mail addresses and an upgrade may be required...

Again, it would probably be best to PM the mods here to get confirmation of what can and cannot be done.

I also advise a backup of your e-mails if they are important to you.  You can do this via a free e-mail client like "Mail" on Apple computers or something else on Windows computers.

As mentioned, I would migrate/change Rogers/Yahoo e-mail addresses to something like Gmail when it's convenient.  Certainly not Yahoo.   People change their e-mail addresses all the time now, so it's not as much of an inconvenience as it was many years ago.  You can still leave all your previous e-mails on Rogers/Yahoo and access them when you need to, if applicable

I Plan to Stick Around

What is the safest way to do this now days? Just call tech support?

I don't want them to make a mistake and somehow delete my emails...

Moving mine from my account to my parents. I have authorization on their account.

In late September, through Rogers Tec Support, I was able to successfully move all my Rogers email accounts to another Rogers user's account. My daughter also has a Rogers internet account and we moved my email address (which was the primary email address under my Rogers internet account) and 6 other email addresses under my Rogers internet account, over under to my daughter's Rogers internet account. The move was seamless. We didn't experience any email downtime and most importantly all our legacy emails on the Rogers servers were fully retained without issue. I've since closed my Rogers internet account and all our email addresses work fine with all our legacy emails still available.

One thing to note which I was informed by Rogers Customer Support during the process. The "90 day grace period" for not terminating your emails after your account closure, which is referred to in various posts and discussions, does exists BUT users will NOT have access to their email accounts during the grace period. If the user hasn't moved his/her email addresses to another Rogers account or reinstated their own Rogers internet account then after 90 days the email addresses and related legacy emails are deleted. I had no first hand experience with any aspect of this since I moved my email addresses prior to closing my Rogers internet account. Just letting folks know that there are conditions on the 90 day grace period according to Rogers Customer Support (and the individual I spoke to seemed very knowledgeable and confident on these matters).
