Re: Internet speeds

I appreciate the information, again. Though it's quite a lot to take in. I really have no real background in networks and IT, so I don't understand that much of what was said, but My best guess is that the modem I have has a lot of issues? I mean, the whole reason I switched to this plan is because I needed faster and more reliable internet, but it seems as though my old internet, though not as fast, was definitely more reliable. I don't really have very many devices on wifi. Only a few, so that's not a huge issue. The main issue is my desktop which has a wired connection and is experiencing random speeds. nothing fixed at all. I have LITERALLY seen the speedtest go up to 20mbps UPLOAD speed, so I know it's possible. I've even seen it go faster. I am in an apartment, but I have never had any issues like this before.

Re: Internet speeds

Don't worry about trying to understand everything all at once.  We'll take this one step at a time.  The first step however is call tech support and have the CSR to run a signal check on the modem to see what turns up.  With that done, getting a tech in to check the MDU and cabling is the next step.  The question is, is this a single user issue, or an MDU issue?  The results of the tech visit should indicate if further maintenance actions are required.  If so, we'll go from there.

With good signal levels, that modem should be rock solid, and on a 250/20 plan, you should see peak wired speedtest results in the 300+ / 20+ Mb/s range.

Re: Internet speeds

k i wont go into all the details but i have been dealing with the OFP since Jan 2015 about an ongoing issue with my internet and as of today i am still waiting for some kind of update as to when its going to done...Basicly i was told back in late August that October November of 2015 but i am still unable to either confirm or deny this nfo, so what i am wondering is there any one higher up that i can contact at rogers that can help me, been a cx since the late 70's and so far getting really frustrated with all this crap....and o ya my 2 cents wrth about the new internet speed that rogers is getting ready to push out..why bother they cant get what they have to wrk the way advertise, and from what i can see from the forum here you need to purchasse a router bridge your modem to get half decent speeds, i currently am on the 250/20

and just a small sample of the speedtest test results by okkla which bares no resemblance of what i accully see at my end

Re: Internet speeds

Good luck i did get a reply finally back fromthe OFP and was informed that i will now have to wait till monday now for possibly somekind of update[ maybe] because the person that can tell the OFP about the who what when where how :-)  is away ....this is just like being at the circus on the merry go around but the best part is that with such a giant corp there is only one person that they can find out when this maybe get done other than  October/November

Re: Internet speeds

k so after reading a whole mess of posts the only way i am going to get my wifi to reach my tablet 20 feet from my basement to my above ground patio[ and no moving the router to the main floor is not an option since my computer room is in the basement] is that i need to purchase at my own expensie a router then bridge the rogers wifi/modem so it dosnt handle the wifi anymore and use the newly purchassed $100.00 router so that i can get the connection for my wifi that rogers is charging me for and i have never really been able to use. :-(

Now that really is something, why cant rogers supply the proper equipment for us peeps instead of going through all the hassels of spending more monies, and doing the bridge thing?

Re: Internet speeds

The modem is supposed to be all the equipment you need. If your home setup requires you to use something other then the modem that's not the fault of the company.

Have you considered getting a better modem though? The Rocket Modem apparently has the strongest Wi-Fi capability of the bunch.
