I want to change my ISP address, I have told all I have to do is add a new MAC address to my router.

Can someone give me step by step directions?

Thanks.

If you mean that you want to change your modem's IP address, the quickest way to accomplish that is to change the modem.... different modem, different IP address.  You could try uplugging the modem for a few hours and power it back up to see if that has resulted in an IPaddress change, but, no guarantees that will actually work.  On modems used by TPIAs there might be a clone MAC address function available which would clone one of the MAC addresses of the devices connected to the modem, but, if that capability is available within the Hitron modems, its buried and only available to tech support.  So, as I said initially, the easiest way to do this is to swap the modem at the nearest Rogers store.  This should be a really easy task to accomplish, for any number of reasons, it isn't 😞

Yes. I want to change my Public IP address

I power down my modem daily when I go to work, so I know for a fact turning it off for 12 hours does not change the IP address.
I had to purchase this modem from best buy or futureshop I don't remember which. I assume it was cheaper than Rogers price.
I wonder if they will swap me another for this one?

Re: How to change the Public IP address?

Owning the modem definitely complicates the issue. You could always try to swap it.  If its still under warranty that might work out, never know till you ask.

I went to online support to see if they could change my ip address...
They said it is assigned and couldn't.
They told me to try unplugging which i have and they said I could try swapping out the modem. Which seems to be my only other option...
Other than getting a new provider.

Thanks Datalink!
I had no problems getting a new modem from Rogers.
I now have a new IP address.

Re: How to change the Public IP address?

Glad to see that it worked out 🙂

Re: How to change the Public IP address?

Need help changing my IP Address

so recently I have been having problems with my internet and it is all due to my IP Address. It all started with my PS4 when Sony banned my IP Address (not sure why), its mostly a mistake whenever they do, do it. So I can't really connect to PSN until I get a new IP Address. I have also been having problems on a bunch of websites where I get access denied and I'm pretty sure its because of my IP because when I use a VPN (changes the IP Address), the website works. I contacted Rogers by live chat and the person told me to disconnect the router for 24 hours and than connect back and the IP should be changed, but even than its not a guarantee. If anyone knows a better method to change the IP address that would be nice because I only got a couple days left before school starts and I really wanted to have a little bit of fun on my PS4, plus there are so many sites I can't access and its annoying to use a VPN every time I need to access those websites. Please help if you can.

Re: How to change the Public IP address?

@jaisonpanikar, if you're running a modem only, take the modem into the nearest Rogers store and swap it for the same modem, or higher modem model.  If you have a black CGN3xxxx modem, as seen by the product sticker at the back of the modem, swap it for a CGN3ACSMR or a CGNM-3552.  If you have a white CODA-4582, then you should be able to swap that for another 4582.

If the modem is running in Bridge mode and you are running a router behind it, you can clone another MAC address from one of the connected devices.  That should solve the problem instantly.

Fwiw, we've seen this come up every now and then.  For some reason an IP address is blacklisted and it usually takes a while just to figure that out.  Swap modems, and you're back in business.

In both cases, swapping the modem which changes the MAC address, or cloning another MAC address in the router will result in a different WAN IP address.

Re: How to change the Public IP address?

Will replacing my router change the IP?

Just wondering, I tried disconnecting the router for many hours for the past couple days and the IP has not changed at all, rogers is no help at this point. Im wondering if replacing the router would change the IP cause a new router would mean a new MAC address which may lead to a new IP. If anyone has had experience in this let me know, or would I just be wasting my time?

Re: How to change the Public IP address?

@jaisonmorgan, yes, changing the modem will result in a new MAC address which will result in a new WAN IP address.  If you're running a router with the modem in Bridge mode, that won't work.  For a router, you would have to clone the MAC address from some device on your local network, or, clone a different device if you already do this.

Re: How to change the Public IP address?

Good morning @jaisonmorgan!

Welcome to our Community!

You'd be surprised at how often this question comes up! Unfortunately, we have no way to absolutely guarantee an IP address change. We use dynamic DHCP so you are automatically assigned an IP address.

Swapping your modem and getting a new MAC will trigger a new IP lease but if your previous IP address is still available, it's quite possible that same IP address will simply be renewed.

Is there any reason, in particular, that you're looking to get a new IP address? It's possible that you're experiencing a technical issue that we can resolve without getting a new IP address.

Please let us know! This Community can be of great help!

Regards,

RogersCorey

Re: How to change the Public IP address?

Yup, as @RogersCorey points out, there isn't a 100% guarantee that you would end up with a different IP address.  That will depend on the address pool available at the Cable Modem Termination System (CMTS) and the address pool available at every CMTS will be different due to the number of modems connected to the CMTS.  But ..... I'd be very surprised if you ended up with the same IP address.

Re: How to change the Public IP address?

Hello, @hiho.

Thank you for posting your query in the Community. You are having issues with an IP address getting blocked, can you please elaborate a little more?

  • Is the issue with your Public IP address?
  • Who has blacklisted that IP address?
  • Have you reached out to the service provider who has blacklisted the IP address?

Feel free to provide us with more relevant details so the Community can chime in.

Cheers,

RogersMoin
