Help with setting up a gaming server/ Port Fowarding

Hi

I really want to setup a minecraft server but I cannot figure out how open any ports. I know what to do from this point on its just getting the ports, IP's, etc right.

If any of you could give me some advice or insight it'd be greatly appreciated!

Thanks, Eric

First, we would need to know which rogers gateway you are using Smiley Happy

As it varries from one to another.

(oh, and just as a heads up.. watch what the USAGE is on your package.  I know someone, who let their kids set up one, not knowing... and they had ALOT of people connect to it.. and went like 300g in one month)

What do you mean by gateway? The ipv4 address? And just a heads up I'm currently using a modem with my desktop to connect the wifi. Will this matter when I'm changing the settings?

Our rogers internet is unlimted so no worries on going over on usage!

P.S. Our router is the Hitron Technologies CGN2-R0G

That's what I was referring to. It's called a gateway normally as it's a modem and router combined.

That's the one gateway I am least familiar with.

You should be able to log into it, then go into the firewall section, then Forwarding.

You will have to find out the necessary ports to forward for it.
If there is more than one port that needs to be forwarded, you may have to set up multiple rules.
You'll want to put that port as the public, as well as the private port.
The IP address, is the ip of the computer you are forwarding to. (You may want to consider setting it static so it doesn't change)

how would I go about making my IP truly static?

Re: Help with setting up a gaming server/ Port Fowarding

Easiest way is on the PC itself.

Guessing your network is currently set up with the hitron as 192.168.0.1 ??

so your other PC's should be 192.168.0.XXX

(for pc)
You will want to go into the control pannel > Network and Sharing center

On the right side, click on change adapter settings

Right click on your wireless card, and go to properties

Then go down to Internet Version Protocl V4... then properties

Here you can set the IP address.... set something in the 192 range... like 192.168.0.100

subnet mask: 255.255.255.0

gateway 192.168.0.1

DNS you can just put in 192.168.0.1

EVERY time this wireless card boots up, it will try and grab that address.
ONLY problem with this is.. if you try to log into the laptop on someone elses wireless.. and it DOESNT have the same IP address structure.. you wont be able to connect.

Wireless cards, due to their nature of being able to connect many places.. arent really great candidate for static addresses

Alright, just followed you're steps and made a couple little tweeks and everything is up and running! Smiley Happy

Port 25565 is now open for buisness.

Thanks for the help.
