Hello Community,

 

We are currently offering our users an exclusive opportunity to participate in an upcoming trial of the new firmware for our Rocket Wi-Fi Modem (CGN3ACR, CGN3AMR and CGN3ACSMR) and Rocket Gigabit Wi-Fi Modem (CGN3552 and CODA-4582). For details of this program, please see this thread.

 

This thread will be used for feedback regarding the firmware.  We've invited @RogersSergio@RogersSyd & @RogersBob from our Networking team to participate in this thread.  Your feedback is very valuable and will be used to enhance the firmware before it is released publicly.

Note that no new firmware is available yet for the CODA-4582.  Subscribe to this thread to keep updated on the latest developments. They are working on something for release fairly soon.  @RogersDave is working hard to address the issues as they come up.  Patience is required for a solution, but at least you will have the most up to date information by following this thread.  There are some very knowledgeable members here as well.

To add the new CODA-4582 modem to any new Firmware testing I was told to contact RogersDave Directly via PM with the info needed. I didn't see problems with the speed today until 10:16PM when my speeds went down again. I'm not really sure why it would go gown again albeit having worked perfectly all day today (Sunday).  If you need any help with testing, I'd be glad to offer my time starting around 3 PM Monday. 

 

On a side note, I'm also experiencing a ping increase and increased packet loss on League of Legends with the CODA modem. On the CGN3ACSMR I used to average 28ms, but with the CODA I average 43ms and an average packet loss of 8.9/min. I've included a screenshot with a network diagnostic during a game. logsoflag_12_18.png

1st of all ty for all you do. We all appreciate it very much.

I haven't heard anything back from anyone about what happened on Friday.

Also having the 3552 and the .21 firmware I can say that my pixel hasnt disconnected once. A bit slow though not sure if that helps.

Still not impressed with the tech that was here on Friday.

I've been here awhile

I got my new CODA-4582 the other day.

It is working pretty great so far but I'm only on the 100mb\sec service so not pushing it too much.

Good afternoon Community,

 

We have been extremely busy in the last few days working with our vendor to characterize this issue, identify the root cause and work on bringing a workaround into play.

 

I was able to pull logs from all the CODA-4582 currently in use by our customers over the week-end. With these logs, we were able to identify a trend and a potential root cause.

 

For the customers affected, by slow speeds would it be possible to try the following workarounds. These are valid in both bridge and gateway mode.

 

  1. For devices or computer hardwired in the modem, avoid using Ethernet port 1 unless absolutely necessary. Connect any computer or router in ports 2, 3 or 4
  2. If your modem is operating in gateway mode, disable the 2.4 GHz wireless from the GUI
  3. If your modem is operating in bridge mode, make sure to place your WiFi router at least 1.8 metres (6 feet) away from the modem
  4. Make sure to place any WiFi device such as routers, repeaters, access points at least 1.8 metres (6 feet) away from the modem

 

We fully understand that the above are not permanent fixes and are working on making the appropriate corrections via software. Having some feedback from customers on the effectiveness of these workarounds would however help us move forward quicker.

 

Once the above workarounds are implemented, make sure as a last step to reboot your modem.

 

When reporting your speeds, please try to put in the same message the confirmation that you have implemented these workarounds, the average speeds you were getting before and the new speeds (I'm sorry, there are too many of you reporting speeds and it gets hard for me to track improvement or degradation).

 

The above might not be the solution for everybody but it will certainly help some of you with serious speed degradation problems.

Judging by your post you guys have a suspecision that there is some RF interference from 2.4 GHZ devices, something not shieled well in the modem? As well as my first report about port 1 speeds being much slower then port 4 might have been accurate i could reproduce it multiple times liek clock work the dy i reported it, But I couldnt reproduce it the next day... 

 

Interesting, I will get my gear onto Port 4 instead when i get home and my AP is already 6 feet away from my modem so no worries there.

@RogersDave not everybody yet has the new modem so what's going on with the cgn3acsmr when is the new firmware going to start being rolled out I'm still getting slower upload since .27 firmware and it's been over 2 months now and still no solution on this

Will these changes help us that are getting extremely slow speeds? I was getting decent speeds, however this morning I reset my modem and now my speeds are terrible. I'm getting 2-3mb/s max, when I login to the modem my LOG is full of Sync Errors. I know this isn't a hardware issue, because this started this morning after a factory reset. I tried another factory reset and numerous reboots but still getting a DOCSIS LOG full of SYNC Errors, and unusable internet speeds.

 

*EDIT* I disabled 2.4Ghz, ran a speed test and had normal/good speeds again!

I then re-enabled 2.4Ghz once again, but this time set the channel width the 20mhz only, I once again have full speed. So perhaps people with extremly slow speeds should try changing 2.4Ghz to 20mhz only channel width and see if that helps. I also checked my DOCSIS log and so far no Sync Errors after making the changes to 2.4Ghz band.

Or

B) Do you mean, don't have any WiFi devices (routers, access points, repeaters, etc.) within 6' of the device?

Or

C) Do you mean, use at least a 6' Ethernet cable to connect your personal router, whether it does WiFi or not (which means, don't use the included Ethernet cable).

I'll update my post but you are right, it should have been more along the lines of "place any WiFi device (routers, access points, repeaters) at least 6' away from the modem".

There are 2 completely different issues but yes we have seen some modems experiencing abnormally high error rates on some DOCSIS channels even though the signal was perfectly normal and the SNR was well above the threshold.

 

For the switch, I believe there are cases where autonegociation fails and the port falls back to 100 Mbps (green light instead of amber). It seems to be more frequent on port 1.

@lethalsniper, the cable modem world is waiting for Intel and Arris to resolve this so that the updates can be sent to other manufacturers and ISPs.

I just wanted to input my speedtest results to help out as much as I can. I normally don't see much problem with my download speeds but I do see it with my upload speeds.

 

My setup has always been using the modem in bridge mode connected to my router. Modem is in my basement and router is on main floor so more than 6 feet apart even before it was recommended today. I also always used port 3 on the modem before today aswell. Router is also a TP-Link Archer C7.

Untitled.pngThese test were done minutes after one another. Previous tests I have done with the CGNM-3552 and CODA-4582, I have always got upload speeds varying from 10Mbps-30Mbps throught the day. I really only see 30Mbps after peak hours when I do tests at 1:00 AM. My download speeds mostly are at 750Mbps and above.

I have an update as well.  Havent moved the modem 6 feet apart yet but i noticed somehting interesting.  My wired speedtest results are under 300/9, yet when i speedtest off my phone on 5g, Im going 290/30.  Anyone have any idea how this is possible lol
