As the subject says I'm getting messages from Outlook 2016 and it needs to be updated!

TIA,

Re: Email POP Certificate not valid anymore pop.broadband.rogers.com

A while back I added the "@rogers.com" to my username. That allowed me to use my client (Outlook for Mac 2011), but I was still getting the certificate error message and had to click "continue" on it.

Today I changed my incoming server to "pop.mail.yahoo.com" and everything works as before - no more certificate pop-up.  (I prefer to run POP instead of IMAP due to the way I use e-mail on a single desktop computer.)

If anyone wishes to perform similar changes, I suggest you take a screenshot of your current settings, in case things don't work out for you, or in case Rogers does something in the near future to "mess things up" so that you can change things back...

Thank you to those people who have posted these helpful hints. Why Rogers is unable to properly address these issues for their many customers is beyond me.  They should be sending appropriate e-mails to every Rogers internet customer, the way they did for the SSL update about 3 years ago.

Bless you! Bless you! Bless you! May all your lottery tickets be winners!

A simple fix, but I would never have thought of it, having used these settings for many years.

Re: Email POP Certificate not valid anymore pop.broadband.rogers.com

This incident does go to show me how poor the rogers help service is you cant get through, you get the run around, they dont know, and some member of the public figured it out by experiment. Change control 101 not followed on some new roll out.  Still they dont have a good response, I bet 90% of their customers still having problems.

I agree.  I too am using Outlook and was getting the pop-up security certificate warning screen.  A simple change in my Outlook account settings for the Rogers e-mail logon worked ---> i.e. change the incoming server from "pop.broadband.rogers.com" to "pop.mail.yahoo.com" and everything works.  No other changes to my e-mail account settings were required.

I would like to suggest that if it hasn't been done yet, that Rogers add this to its support search on line and FAQ's and and email burst would may be warrented.

For those who call in for support based upon the successful suggestions here, mention to them to do these updates in information on their end.  The forum should not be the first and primary resource for support, but it often feels that way.

Just a suggestion.

Any email setup document you pull up on the support site clearly states that the "user name" is to be the FULL email address. Don't know what year this changed but I've been here for 2 1/2 years and it has been true for that long. A judging from the call queue yesterday and the number of related calls I took myself, the first line of resource has been the phone line. Would have preferred going home early instead of steady phone calls. LOL

Right on. Well said. I'll try ANYTHING before calling Rogers Tech Support as a last resort and for the incredibly long wait in a call queue resulting in no help. Thanks to this community forum.

Although the full user name has been stated for a while, people are not likely to change their setups until something goes wrong or until they receive formal notice from Rogers (which was not done). The last notice from Rogers was the SSL notice over 3 years ago when the short user name was still accepted.

Also, the setup documents DO NOT (and still do not) discuss changing the incoming server to "pop.mail.yahoo.com", which was necessary for some users to get their clients working properly.  The Rogers link clearly shows a different incoming server:

(I do realize that many people are on IMAP, however, many are also on POP and sometimes for good reason (like using a single computer/device)

Hi borford,

Thank you for posting this. It's been an awkward week with this surprise and I appreciate your putting the solution up. I tried adding 'like' to the post but nothing seems to happen when I click the button. This whole event was pretty frustrating.

Thanks again,

Ken

Re: Email POP Certificate not valid anymore pop.broadband.rogers.com

I can't believe it, I've had this problem for 3 days and I was told by Rogers to delete email account and reinstall!! I just saw your email while on hold with Rogers - yet again, tried your suggestion - added @rogers.com and it worked!!

Thank you!!

I am running Outlook 2010.

I tried each/both of the two suggested fixes:

1) Adding rogers.com to the email account user name

and

2) changing the incoming mail server from: pop.broadband.rogers.com

and neither worked for me....so, I called rogers tech support and discovered through them that if the two fixes above don't work ....then likely that your anti-virus program is the culprit. They have had problems with Norton and Kapersky. I am running Bitdefender antivirus. The fix for me involved:

1) Close outlook
2) Turning off my Bitdefender antivirus

3) open outlook .... & voila, my email worked again for all 7 of my email accounts

4) Turn on my bitdefender anti virus program protections

5) go back into outlook and email still working.

Don't know much about computers but the issue with the antivirus program(s) has to do with assigned ports etc ??

In any event if you haven't had success with getting your Outlook back up and running...I would recommend trying the above[ Turning off whatever anti-virus program you are using....open outlook to ensre email works....turn your anti-virus program back on]

Rogers tech support did confirm that:

1) the user name issue needs to be fixed (to add rogers.com), and
2) The incoming server should be: pop.broadband.rogers.com ---notwithstanding some have aparently had success modifying this field also.

Good luck.....& thanks to everyone for sharing their experiences here.

I've Been Here Awhile

Finally, after changing the server to pop.mail.yahoo.com and adding the @rogers.com to my user name, I was able to retrieve my email on mac mail.

I have had the same problems as described on this thread.  I have fixed my Outlook (2010) by adding the @rogers.com to my username as was suggested and then I fixed GMail by changing the pop server to pop.mail.yahoo.com.  So I'm all up and running again.  Tried to communicate with the Chat support people about the SSL error and well that was a complete waste of time.

Left a complaint about the level of education of the support people on the rogers site and they did try and contact me but I will doubt that they really know what is going on although fixing a certificate on a mail server seems pretty trivial to me.

Anyway thanks to those who posted possible solutions on this thread they helped me.

Unfortunately pop.mail.yahoo.com does not work on my Android phone.

For a mobile device I would highly suggest using IMAP over POP, that way if your device resets/stolen/breaks, etc. you wont loose your e-mails.

Settings for POP and IMAP can be found here:

I was doing some testing of Eurodora as it got asked elsewhere - There is an FAQ at http://www.rogers.com/web/support/internet/email/87?setLanguage=en

that explains the setups and definitely, you have to have the full email address, not just the old user name.

This is an old post from about 2007, so not sure why it kept working for some.

On all of my devices, the email clients are smart enough to check what service and settings are managing a domain address and the new Eurodora set it to the yahoo site, not Rogers.

I did test the new Eurodora on the Rogers email MX server address, and it worked fine as long as I put the full email address in.

You have to wonder why they don't just kill the rogers mx email server and just push it all over to Yahoo, since that is what al the clients are doing anyway, for Pop or IMAP.  Maybe they are doing just that with the expired server, and the problems that it is now creating - maybe the old setup finally got killed entirely and now it is actually just pushing over to Yahoo through a redirection of the MX rogers email server settings.

Just a guess.

But at least we know how to work around it.

Time for Rogers to update the FAQ's to include modern clients and cell phone soft client email apps that set the connection directly to Yahoo, whether pop or Imap.

I found that on  Android, I had to set the incoming server to yahoo, and the inbound to the rogers one.

Really weird - Rogers tech really do need to take a serious look at this and do some testing on various devices and get clear instructions passed to the forum, and update the FAQ.

If you are struggling, work with tech support to get through this one.  You may have to try alternative setups.

My own personal feeling - get off Yahoo as fast as you can.

Had the same issue with outlook and finally figured it out.  Open your account settings and check the "Logon Information".  The "User Name" field used to take only the portion of you email address before the "@" it now requires the complete email address.

Updated mine to add the "@rogers.com" and voila working email again.

Re: Email POP Certificate not valid anymore pop.broadband.rogers.com

This worked for me as well. Finally got my gmail working properly.  I should also add that adding @rogers.com to my username did not resolve this issue by itself.  Had to change the pop server name as well.

There is definitely something a bix messed up on the MX and redirection features of the original broadband.rogers email server, the user names and we are all ending up having to tinker to get it to work - someone on Rogers end (Hello Rogers email server team) needs to contact Yahoo and clean up this mess.

I hadn't run into it, because I was on IMAP, and my cell phone from Rogers actually populated the fields in IMAP, but when I tried to do it on POP, you see the strange setup I had to do with the two different In and Out servers to get it to work.  I knew about the user name having to be @rogers from a long time ago when I got a new computer.

Me thinks it is time to Yahoo to dump the broadband.rogers MX address and redirect for email and just treat @rogers as a domain of email that goes to Yahoo.

Or as I have suggested, how about Rogers just dump Yahoo and get out of the email business - they market it being so wonderful that you can get up to 9 emails.  The reality is that if you can create unlimited emails amongst your family and for various groups or companies, you administer, and my kids get their own - I don't want to manage other people's emails.

Glad people are figuring this out - wonder if tech support understands this one yet?

I'm Here A Lot

I'm back!! And not happy about it. After spending 3 days not being able to use Rogers email on computers - pop version, but could use Rogers email on iPhones - imap version - iIT HAS NOW SWITCHED!!! Now we cannot use our emails on our phones - keeps asking for password - I enter them, doesn't accept them! I know it's right - they work on out computers, and I just changed them in the last few days with all the trouble on the computer emails!!

This is so unbelievable annoying! I just do not want to have to spend hours trying to figure out this next stage of email woes!!

Anyone else having this issue? It just started a short while ago.

Thanks,

Deborah
