Re: Email POP Certificate not valid anymore pop.broadband.rogers.com

Interestingly, I can send e-mails from my Outlook Mac 2011 client, but I cannot receive.   I've left it at POP which I prefer since I'm only sending/receiving from my desktop computer (or via Webmail when I'm travelling).

Weird that it's taking this long to correct.

Checking the internet it appears that Yahoo in the states is having the same problems. This is widespread.

Re: Email POP Certificate not valid anymore pop.broadband.rogers.com

Reading this, fortunately, I am on IMAP on my phones, and on computer, I use only Webmail on my laptops and desktop.

IMAP versus POP - individual choice

Thanks @gp-se  Your point about benefits and the reality of current world practices of multiple device access to mail puts IMAP as the preferred choice, but for a long time, I maintained a pop access on my server because I wanted an archived copy of all my mail, it was clean and simple and dealt with the issue of when I changed providers, not that it matters much anymore - I have dumped Rogers Yahoo and moved to gmail exclusively.

The Certificate Issue

I wish I could say that I haven't seen this happen with Rogers before - it happened last year with access to home voicemail online and would run on some browsers and not on others, One Number on different outdated protocols that Chrome blocked, while others allowed it.

Rogers seems to be lacking in the proactive side of staying current with their own certificate expirations, as well as maintaining current industry approved protocols.  I have personally discussed this with a higher level tech a couple of time - they are aware and working to improve it!!

Suggest that you contact Rogers tech support and if call time is too long - use the send a concern option

Reporting and asking here is good too, but my experience is that I get faster response, and sometimes compensation for inconvenience when I take it directly to them and escalate it to higher tech levels - when I report this type of thing via concern, I usually ask directly to have it reviewed by manager or office of president in technical support, describe the issue clearly and what may be happening if you have ideas, and ask for a call back from a higher level tech - and do keep escalating to senior techs and formal concerns if you find it not being dealt with.  If it is not being dealt with in a reasonable period, it is legitimate, in my mind, to escalate it.  We do pay for the service.  If you do accept compensation, my practice is also to define it for the period of current lost service, say a month for example, and if it goes beyond, I come back at it again.

But then again, if you can't be bothered, the suggestion to go IMAP until it gets fixed means you can leave it alone and do more productive things in life.  I am retired and alone at home a lot, so I have the time.

Hope this gets resolved soon, Bruce

Security Certificate on email

I'm still having problems accessing my email account.   My iphone and ipad mail functions seem to work, but my Outlook 13 mail on the main computer still can't download my mail.   Waiting for help on Chat line or phone takes too long.

I found that in Outlook 2016 that in the account settings my username was missing the @User2841@.com part on some of my systems.  Not sure if the recent problem had anything to do with that.  My thinking is that in the past the email servers didn't require it and now it's required.  All I know is that on all of my systems I was able to click through the cert warning in Outlook yesterday and get mail.  Today after the cert problem was fixed? the Oultlook install on systems without @rogers.com in the username errored out until I corrected it.  Found the same problem on a desktop email checking app.

Re: Email POP Certificate not valid anymore pop.broadband.rogers.com

I've got the same problem on Windows Live Mail 2012.  Started yesterday afternoon....Feb. 1.  Seemed like it was fixed last night but this morning it's rejecting my password.  ***sigh***

EDIT: I just added @rogers.com to my user name (as mentioned above by DaDDz) and all seems good for now.

Re: Email POP Certificate not valid anymore pop.broadband.rogers.com

My pop account has been working for a few hours now, but as people are still reporting the issue this is strange. Perhaps it's my time zone. I'm in the Philippines so I'm 13 hours ahead of my normal location in Toronto
