DNS Benchmark Results Loss

I am not sure if this is anything to do with the Ping and Latency issues with the Hitron CGN3AC I just wanted to bring this issue to the forums.. every single time I do a dns benchmark search for the fastest server to use every single one of them has loss and are not considered reliable. I use to run these tests all the time with my Cisco DPC3825 and had no issues the top DNS servers were Rogers most the time and 100 percent reliable now even the Rogers ones have loss which is odd the only server that is 100 percent is the Router 192.168.0.1 any one know whats going on or having the same issue?

Re: DNS Benchmark Results Loss

What are you using for your benchmarks?

I am using:
https://www.grc.com/dns/benchmark.htm

I just ran it, (havent in ages), using the CGN3 (not the AC unit), and was able to most to return as reliable. (no loss).

Now.. the main difference i would think, is that on this PC, i am running the GOOGLE dns already, and not the rogers one.
Are you using the rogers ones? (either by IP or by the DNS as the gateway IP)

I am wondering if using the rogers ones screws up the results of the test?

Re: DNS Benchmark Results Loss

Run a trace route to multiple sites and see what your results are.  I'd be interested to know if you're having similar problems to me, where hops within the Rogers network have high latency and even time out.  This the the main hop which has probelms:

7.11.163.21 (7.11.163.21) 123.115 ms 122.916 ms 74.448 ms

Re: DNS Benchmark Results Loss

I would try swaping over your DNS server, set it manually, even just on that PC... and see if it makes a difference in the results.

Re: DNS Benchmark Results Loss

That IS odd..

And i wonder, if this is something that ties in ,with the issues that some people are having with playing LoL, etc with the CGN3AC modem

As i have the regular CGN3.. and am not having the same results.

That may be an option/idea... call around to the local stores, see if any have the CGN3 (regular ones) and go swap it.  Really all you loose is the AC wireless.

Re: DNS Benchmark Results Loss

Your trace looks fine.

I have the same modem as you, but I can't reproduce the problem you have.  Are you using the Hitron modem as a gateway or do you have a separate router?

If you're using a separate router, connect your computer directly to the Hitron modem with an ethernet cable (make sure to have your operating system's firewall enabled for safety) and run your test again.  This will ensure the issue isn't with your router.

If the problem still exists directly connected to the modem, do a full reset of your modem (hold the reset button for 10 sec).  This will force the modem to grab the latest software and reinitialize itself.  If you currently have your modem in bridge mode, it will return to gateway mode.  Once it resets, wire your computer directly (while stlll in gateway mode) to the modem and try the DNS benchmark again.  If the problem still persists, disable the gateway functionality on the modem to put it in bridge mode (whether or not you use a separate router) and run the test again.  This is just to make sure the gateway functionality isn't to blame, which is the problem people have in regards to gaming.
