XB6 Modem Settings/Requests/Firmware Discussion

I'm an advisor

Hey guys, I noticed we don't have a dedicated thread on the XB6 modem like the Hitrons. I'm making this thread so we can talk about the various settings and requests for future changes through firmware updates. For me the biggest issues with the modem is we cannot block specific devices from internet access and we cannot use custom DNS servers.

With the Hitrons we could use a custom DNS without issues, and if we bridge the modem we can also use a custom DNS so I don't see why we aren't given the option with the XB6. The Xi6 boxes don't require using Rogers DNS since in bridge mode they are using whatever DNS the user has specified. For security and privacy reasons it's nice being able to choose whatever DNS server we want, and also being able to block devices like personal NAS and IoT from network access.

I know everyone is going to say put the XB6 in bridge mode and problem solved, however besides these two issues my XB6 isn't that bad. The range and speed suits my needs so why should I buy another $200-$300 router just so I can use a custom DNS and block some devices from the internet. Hopefully Rogers listens to our feedback and gives us more control like on the Hitrons.

It is pushed by Rogers.

I been with Ignite for 2 years now and have never been aware of a firmware update to the modem/route or TV box. There have been posts in this forum about some added features and when I checked they were there.

Maybe this is how firmware updates for all devices should work. Good job Rogers.

Wow, I must be 2 or more behind:  still at 18.3, and 4.2p ... Is it possible that bridges don't get updated automatically?

I am also on 18.3 and 4.2p. Certain areas get updated first then it's gradually rolled out across the entire network.

Hey Guys,

I have the following firmware:

eMTA & DOCSIS Software Version:Prod_19.3_d31 & Prod_19.3
Software Image Name:CGM4140COM_4.6p4s1_PROD_sey
Advanced Services:CGM4140COM
Packet Cable:2.0

I've noticed now that I can no longer set any Reserved IP addresses,  I always get a "Failure! Please check your inputs." error.  This was working a few weeks back and I think this update must've broken it.  I do notice that the Connected Device List shows up the list more accurately instead of constantly refreshing the list every second on whatever older firmware I had, but Reserving IP addresses seem to be broken.

Anyone else seeing this?

Re: XB6 Modem Settings/Requests/Firmware Discussion

That has never been an option for me I cannot and never have been able to do that.

I have a couple of reservations set up, when I get this firmware versions, if I do, I will see if they remain and test a new one.

So is it possible to roll back the firmware to avoid transparent DNS which the XB6 is doing.

Why rogers has decided to take control of the DNS is not clear.

End users have no control over the firmware on the modems. Rogers wants you to use their DNS because it is better for them. Any of my devices I set with a static IP, I use Cloudfare's DNS.

I was using Cloudflare, but it kept connecting to the DNS sever IAD instead of YYZ which added a noticeable delay loading websites. I have since switched to CIRA Canadian Shield which is working better so far.

The light may mean the signal is not strong enough. Is there a cable splitter in use up the line before it gets to the modem? I cannot find a legend to the LED by the coax anywhere.
