Using Alexa to turn TV on/off only

I can set up Alexa to turn TV on/off while leaving the ignite TV box turned on all the time.  Are there any problems with this?  For example, will this cause any update issues for the ignite box?

Not that I can think of.  FYI, pressing the "All Power" button on the Rogers remote doesn't turn the Ignite TV set-top box off either... so, turning your TV off using Alexa isn't really any different.  The Xi6 will go into an idle state after a few hours of inactivity on its own.

Apologies if this is posted elsewhere ...

Just a thought if we could someday be able to control the TV using Google Home or Amazon Alexa?

When watching TV in the dark, it is not always convenient to locate the remote to press the Microphone button.

Plus, using Google/Alexa, I can be anywhere at home without the remote nearby and still use voice to control the TV.

Actually, if you set your TV box's:    "device-setting "  - " power preferences" - "power saver"  option

to "ON", the TV box will recognize when your TV goes off and the box will go off on its own.
