Remote controls TV and sound bar at same time.

My remote is synced with my TV and sound bar which is ideal for changing channels and turning off the TV. However, I would like to keep the TV speakers off and use my sound system on its own. Is there a way to program the remote to stop controlling the TV audio? There is a setting on the TV itself to turn off the speakers, but if I do that, then there is an error message that pops up in the middle of the screen saying "option not available."

Ideal scenario: keep remote synced to TV power and external sound bar, but not to TV audio. Any suggestions?

As soon as you programme the remote properly to include an audio device, then the remote will control the sound bar's volume and not the TV's.

Choose the correct remote and then add the appropriate audio device.

Also make sure that HDMI-CEC is turned off on the TV and sound bar so that they don't "fight" the remote commands as discussed in the following post:

Depending on the TV, can you go into the settings of the TV and shut off the internal speakers?

Thank you for your response. I can now turn on/off my tv and control my external sound system volume, without changing the volume of my TV speakers.
