New Ignite TV Customer, Green Square of Death

I just got Rogers Ignite TV and Internet 3 days ago.  I have 4 TV's, and I have been able to set up my Ignite boxes on all but 1 TV.  When I try on this Sony TV (purchased in 2007), I get a square green screen.  This is what I have tried so far:

  • Unplugging and re-plugging the TV and the Ignite box - did not change anything.
  • Switched the HDMI ports that the Ignite box is plugged into - this did not change anything.
  • Switched the Ignite box with one that is already working.  I still get the green square.
  • I was able to set up the Ignite box that was originally providing a green square on another TV, so the box is not the problem.
  • I was able to set up a Google Chromecast on this TV and it works no problem.
  • This TV worked fine with the old digital NextBox.

I am at a loss here, and am hoping someone has a suggestion.  I don't really want to call Rogers, because I have spent over 2 hours on the phone with them in the last 2 days, trying to get the Ignite service to work, and frankly, I'm exhausted and not up to it today.

@Giraffee66 : A few comments/questions:

1. What is the exact model number of the Sony TV?

2. Have you tried 1080i?

3. Have you tried a different HDMI cable on that TV? One that works on another TV?

4. Have you tried a different input on that TV?

5. Have you updated the firmware on the problem TV?

Plug the box you want to work with, on one of the TVs where it works.
Try dropping it down to a lower video output, instead of AUTO. (try at like 720 or something to start).
Than move it back to the TV with problems and see if it comes up.

Might be some issue with Auto Negotiation of the video signal.

OK, I just downgraded the resolution on that Ignite box to 720p on a working tv.  When I hooked it back up to the Sony TV (which is HD, 1080), I still get the green square. 😞

Well, I'll be - it was a dud HDMI cord (one that came with the new Ignite cable box).  Huh.  Thank you so much 57 for the suggestion!

Thanks for confirming the source of the problem. Sometimes it can be the simplest thing.
