Ignite TV is Awesome!

Being a long time customer of Rogers, I went here before changing to Ignite TV.  I read so many bad postings and complaints - I almost canceled from my cable service. I am in North York, Toronto, Ontario.

I was expecting the worst but honestly, it was so simple and I love my new Ignite TV.  It was the best decision ever.

I switched to the 1GB Internet and get IgniteTV bundle with the phone. The setup was 1 hour - literally simple. The technician came early. I had him move the router two times and before he left, he did a speed test in every room of my house.  Then he was patient when he showed me how to use the voice command remote.

It's been a week. The TV is crystal clear (only I did see a few square flakes for less than 1 sec) a few times. I had zero delays in switching channels.  The 1080hp old dumb TV worked perfectly.  I love it.  The speed of my internet is super fast/at lightning speed and now everything is better. I watched Netflix all the time as well during prime night time internet and TV watching periods.

We work from home. Have 12+ devices going (with a gamer) using lots of high-resolution graphics.

Anyways - I wanted to leave a positive comment.

Re: Ignite TV is Awesome!

I had Ignite TV installed on April 30, 2019. My Ignite TV Installer did a FABULOUS job with the installation. Its been 10 days now an all my family LOVE Ignite TV with the exception that converting from Digital TV channel numbers to Ignite TV channel numbers was somewhat of a challenge -- but after a while that issue is now resolved.

My Ignite TV Gateway is bridged and all 5 of our TV's are wireless -- I have a wireless Access Point on each floor of my house [Basement, 1st floor and 2nd floor] and TV performance works to everyone's satisfaction. Voice Control is simply outstanding. For those wondering my wireless system is based on 3 Ubiquiti UAP-AC Pro's.

In another Rogers Forum I posted some info that some may find helpful.

Re: Ignite TV is Awesome!

I would ask if possible to also put my comment in ignite loses where I put several comments about a year ago.  This is an update for that as well.

I didn’t have IgniteTv but I was told we would eventually be forced to switch.  My problem with it is if internet goes down everything goes down.  I live in an old house with old wiring and it frequently goes down.   And another problem I had was at the time it was more expensive than what I was paying at the time.  My thinking was it should be cheaper because it’s not using additional wiring and etcetra. Also I owned several boxes and I would now have to rent extra boxes.  Bell and others let you watch on Apple TV but not Rogers.

Well I was forced to switch to Ignite bundle because they are getting rid of all the promotions for digital cable.  I was thinking of cancelling when I was given a $60 discount per month.  I am paying $210 for Ignite Premier + Gigabit + home phone + $15 multicultural package.  This is about $30 - $50 more from what i usually pay depending on the year and discounts.

First they got me off VIP and made me switch to premier with a very good offer.  I took the deal because I was told I would eventually have to anyway.  So I did but the discounts aren’t as lofty anymore with digital or ignite.  They got me.

The packaging even for ignite is set up in a manner that even with the Flex 20 you can’t choose NbaTv and MLBtv as part of your flex channels and have to pay an additional $10 a month for a different add on. So I took Premier, because it would only be $25 more.

I have come to terms with all these things.  That’s the nature of the beast that are the telecommunication companies.  If you want to go to a cheap company you can’t get as good of a product.  They have lower speeds and traps of their own making the value of savings disproportionate to what you are sacrificing.

But I must say I am a convert.  Ignite is awesome.  Yes some of the issues I brought up still exist.  But only other choice is having two different lines which I had at one time.  We have no choice all the companies are doing it.

The 4K picture quality seems to be better than my 4kPVR even on wifi.  The voice search is definitely handy even though the voice recognition is not as good as AppleTV.  The searching with genres is brilliant you can quickly see everything playing in your genre of interest.  I haven’t seen any buffering issues in the two days I have had it.  And that’s impressive because we have a million devices.  And the modem is so good I don’t even need the Pods, which was also the case for my previous modem.

I prefer my AppleTV for apps because it’s so much better but for people without a smart tv or streaming box there are apps built like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, YouTube, and others.

Watching on devices is also better.  You can watch all the tv channels on your mobile device with the Ignite App and there is a different way to watch on computers.  Also you can record shows and  download to watch without wifi.

Couple of recommendations I would like to make is make it available for third party devices like other companies are doing and adding AirPlay to the App.

Since the only choice is no cable tv or modified wireless wifi IgniteTv I must say it has been a pleasant surprise.

Remember that IGNITE has Youtube , Netflix, and Prime built in as well.  Hit the Rogers button to get the menu, and go to the "apps" tab.

Is there anywhere we can post feedback of feature requests?
