As the internet evolves it seems to me one aspect of it seems to lack some degree of consumer(user) rights, and
of course, obligations. Certainly service providers for every aspect of internet use set out AUP's & TOS's, but there
are aspects that some people may find unacceptable and there is either no, or minimal resources to try and deal
with an issue that produces results.
Certainly there is the CRTC INTERNET CODE (<--- link), and Canada's Digital Charter, but after our own
Canadian Political (politician?) experiences in the last few years, not to mention the incredible excesses of
Donald Trump in the US, I'm not overly confident that bureaucrats and politico's should be the exclusive
defender of internet rights including areas of basic public relations and communication channels.
Not that Shaw and/or Rogers doesn't have support for technical issues (if you enjoy key boarding with AI bots,
or waiting in a queue on the phone for two hours to talk to a real live person)...
Perhaps it's time internet users of all stripes banded together and formed some kind of oversight group,
and formalized a written set of rights and expectations that is recognized by both government and business,
and most importantly as a vehicle to ensure channels to properly dialogue on customer concerns and issues.
What I'm referring to basically is something like this Italian internet charter of rights: commissione_internet - testo_definitivo_inglese.pdf (<--- link)
If anyone has any thoughts on the subject, I'd appreciate reading them.
