Setting up a new unlocked Microsoft 640XL on the Rogers network

I ordered a new unlocked Microsoft 640XL (Windows 😎 last night which will be delivered to my home in a few days. I already have a Rogers SIM card for my current Windows 8 phone. Other than moving the SIM card over, I assume I need to do some one-time  configuration. I dug up some old note the last time I did this, but  not sure if things have changed since.

Is the following correct?

1) Carrier Code - At the keypad enter : *#272*YOUR IMEI HERE#  and the choose the Rogers carrier. Do I do this with the SIM card in or out? Or is this step actually only needed if the phone was already in use on another carrier?

2) Internet APN settings:

APN: ltemobile.apn ( lower case L)
IP type: IPv4
Everything else blank

3) MMS APN settings:

APN: ltemobile.apn ( lower case L)
MMSC URL: http://mms/gprs/rogers.com
MMSc port: 80
Max MMS size: 1000
IP type: IPv4V6
Everything else blank

4) Email accounts – advanced settings:
Incoming : imap.mail.yahoo.com
Outgoing: smtp.mail.yahoo.com
All boxes checked.

Many thanks.

@Mediaman

Congrats on the new phone!

When you insert an active Rogers sim card into an unlocked device, it will auto-detect the network.

You do not need to manually configure Email account settings.

Once you enter your Rogers email, it will auto-detect settings.

@RogersMay

Many thanks.  Some follow-ups:

FOR APN, on a Windows Phone, why are there at least two variations out there that work, ie:

APN - Settings 1 ( what I use now, per How To, Rogers LTE APN Settting)

APN: ltemobile.apn ( lower case L)

IP type: IPv4
Everything else blank

APN - Settings 2 (per your post above)
APN: internet.com
Username: wapuser1
Password: wap

Above is same as:
https://apn-canada.gishan.net/settings/1000_5_rogers_wireless__apn_settings_for_microsoft_lumia_640_...

FOR MMS, on a Windows Phone, why are there at least three variations out there that work, ie:

MMS Settings 1  ( what I use now)
APN: ltemobile.apn ( lower case L)
MMSC URL: http://mms/gprs/rogers.com
MMSc port: 80
Max MMS size: 1000
IP type: IPv4V6
Everything else blank

MMS Setting 2 ( per your post above)
APN: media.com
Username: media
Password: mda01
MMS Gateway Address: 172.25.0.107
MMS URL: http://mms.gprs.rogers.com
MMS Proxy: 10.128.1.69

MMS Settings 3 (per https://apn-canada.gishan.net/
APN: media.com
Username: media
Password: mda01
WAP Gateway Address: 10.128.1.69

Re: Setting up a new unlocked Microsoft 640XL on the Rogers network

@Mediaman

Not all devices are compatible with more than one APN variation like the Windows phones, so it just comes down to design and technology.

For example there are still some unlocked devices that do not have LTE in the network mode settings as an option.

Re: Setting up a new unlocked Microsoft 640XL on the Rogers network

On my wifes phone, I will soon need to pick up a new SIM card, for an unlocked Blackberry Q5 (with LTE service) and thus will need to set that phone up.

Are the APN/MMS setting for a Blackberry LTE the same as discussed above or is there another set to use?

Blackberry is not speficially menetioned on the How to here :
http://communityforums.rogers.com/t5/forums/forumtopicpage/board-id/Android/thread-id/31936

As a start, I try this set first:

APN  Settings

APN: ltemobile.apn ( lower case L)

IP type: IPv4
Everything else blank

MMS Settings
APN: ltemobile.apn ( lower case L)
MMSC URL: http://mms/gprs/rogers.com
MMSc port: 80
Max MMS size: 1000
IP type: IPv4V6
Everything else blank

@Mediaman

Keep us updated if the settings you've posted works with the new sim card.

As a suggestion you could also try:

APN: rogers-core-appl1.apn
Username: wap
Password: wapuser1
