Re: Nokia Lumia 930

Hello dpaulino

Once again North American carriers will NOT get this phone.. Only Verizon has exclusive rights for this phone. I doubt we will ever see in in any Canadian carriers..

Re: Nokia Lumia 930

Hi all,

It is sad that neither of the top of the line Lumia devices - Icon and 930 - will be coming to Canada. What I am wondering though is whether they will work (especially 4G/LTE) if bought online and unlocked? I am always confused reading the specs and comparing the frequencies. Someone here mentioned that I should look for 2100/2600 in the list and as long as they are there, the phone should give me 4G/LTE. From gsmarena:

930:

4G Network LTE 800 / 900 / 1800 / 2100 / 2600

Icon:

4G Network LTE 700 MHz Class 13 / 1700 / 2100

Seems like at least both of them have 2100, but I am concerned about 700 MHz in Icon, I think it's not the frequency that Rogers is using? Is anyone aware of how to interpret these?

Thanks

Re: Nokia Lumia 930

Hello demonis

Rogers uses Band 12 A and B bands for 700Mhz. I don't think those devices use that band.

The rest will work on Rogers tho.

Re: Nokia Lumia 930

Hi Meowmix,

Thanks for your reply. So are you saying that none of these phones give me 4G/LTE on Rogers? This makes it even worse, as getting them online is no longer an option

Thanks

Re: Nokia Lumia 930

Hello demonis

Rogers 700MHz spectrum is A and B Block, which are band 12. Band 17 is part of C block which most phones have in them..

NOW it might work but the only way to know for sure is when Roger lites up the 700Mhz switch and tests it out. Until then there is no way of knowing for sure.

Re: Nokia Lumia 930

Hello everyone.

My sincerely apologizes. I made a mix up on my above post. Some of us on were getting the wrong information. Rogers will indeed use band 17 for 700Mhz. The thin ia we won't know if the Lumia 930 will indeed work on the network for 700Mhz. Rogers wont test it as they don't carry the device but if someone does have the device and lives in parts of Toronto, Vancouver and parts of Calgary we will know then once they test it.

They haven't listed what devices work bit said most of the LTE device will work on 700Mhz network with band 17

My apologies once again.

Re: Nokia Lumia 930

Hi Meowmix,

Thanks for clarification. But I don't see band 17 supported on either Icon or 930. From their specs I see

Icon:

700 (band 13), 1700/2100 (band 4) MHz

930:

800 (band 20), 900 (band 8), 1800 (band 3), 2100 (band 1), 2600 (band 7) MHz

On the other hand, Lumia 920 which is supported by Rogers doesn't have band 17 either

920:

800 (band 18), 900 (band 8), 1800 (band 3), 2100 (band 1), 2600 (band 7) MHz

To add to the confusion, another source suggests that there are 2 sub-models of Lumia 920:

4G Network:

  • LTE 800 / 900 / 1800 / 2100 / 2600 - RM-821
  • LTE 700 MHz Class 17 / 1700 / 2100 - RM-820 (AT&T)

I feel more confused now 🙂 What bands does Rogers use for LTE? Is it only band 17 or some other bands as well?

Yes, if we had a device we could have tried it, but then it would have to be unlocked which is tricky.

Hello demonis

Rogers uses LTE 2100 (band 1), 2600 (band 7) MHz. Rogers and ATT use the same exact frequencies.

Re: Nokia Lumia 930

I was really hoping the Lumia 930 would be the one for Canada....

Is there a Canadian carrier that it will work with?

I am always surprised that Canada, a first world company with expensive phone rates is always overlooked for phones.

Then again, we also get screwed on vehicles but this is by the car companies...

Any hopes for Nokia X - bigger screen, faster processor, camera?

Here's to hoping!

Re: Nokia Lumia 930

Hello Vivekvp

The Lumia 930 is exclusive to Verizon so it could be a North American Exclusive?. Who knows but no Canadian carrier will get it.

It should work on the big three and Fido, Virgin. That's all i can think of.
