I have a Rogers modem to which my personal wifi router is plugged in by ethernet cable.
I was looking at the list of IP addresses connected to my wifi router.
I say a few 192.168.0.xxx corresponding to computers, phones, etc.
I also saw 126.96.36.199, which is a Rogers computer.
What are they doing there?
Solved! Solved! Go to Solution.
They are not inside your router. The IP you see is one of Rogers DNS servers and the IP address will be in the routers ARP cache as it would have been a recently used IP.
This in the DHCP clients table?
Do you have the rogers home security system? I know with the router for it, plugged into your own of any faction, has its own IP range. (not sure what it is, i forget... but it still shouldnt be visible there)
Normally, you wouldnt see anything outside of your own DHCP range visible on there
Hello gdkitty, thank you for replying.
I do not have the home security service. only coaxial internet and home phone.
Normaly, I see a few 192.168.0.10x
I was surprised to see IP addresses outside of that range.
Why would they be there?
The address I recorded is 188.8.131.52
The whois tool gives information, including the abuse email address email@example.com
I wonder if I should ask them.
Some routers, allow a GUEST network
These guest networks allow for a LIMITED connectivity through your connection.. sometimes only requiring a confirmation on a webpage, etc after connecting (no WPA password, etc).
They can also have restrictions of what can actually be used (only basic HTTP, etc), timed before temp blocking the IP, etc.
Its possible that the guest network assigns a 64.
No. Rogers technicians told me that they setup the coaxial modem as a bridge. Its wifi radio is off.
My wifi router is plugged into it by ethernet cable.
My wifi router has two radios on two frequencies, and they both have a password and require the client's MAC address to be on the list.
The only way that a computer makes in on my router is through the modem, unles someone can guess what MAC addresses are on the list and also guess the password.
