purplish screen

I Plan to Stick Around

It's a cross post from  xda.

I had a Lumia 800 before the 900 and one thing that surprise me was the screen at low brightness, the gray is kind of purple. On this thread I post some pictures:

I don't believe purplish screen is not a hardware flaw, it's a software flaw. I doubt this firmware coming out is going to fix it but you never know but it will probably be fixed in the next firmware update Nokia pushes out to fix all the little things that people have been reporting to them.

The only argument I have for the purple screen is that some phones do NOT have this problem. I compared two to mine in the store. In low brightness, with auto off, running the same firmware my phone did the problem did not exist.

I guess it's comforting knowing that it's not just me who is seeing these issues.

I'll try to create a video later this evening comparing the scroll speed of my lumia 800 and 900 and people will be able to judge for themselves. I really expected the lumia 900 to perform identically. It was buttery smooth on the 800 but it's slow on the 900 which is weird consideirng its practically the same hardware with a few additions and a bigger screen. Not sure if screen size has any effect on the scrolling but if you run the diagnostics app and scroll through that list you'll notice a huge difference in scroll speed. That is how the lumia 800 scroll performs at all times versus the chuggyness of the lumia 900

its bit tricky .. on a sunny room you wont see this and its mostly visible on the dark .. and also its intermittent on mine ..

i am also waiting for other fixes as below

- Call end screen wont come if auto lock is set to 30sec

- if wifi is on and charging, charge wont reach 100%

Mayoo are you referring to where it drops to 99% then goes back to 100% then drops again? I've seen this as well.

I'm fairly convinced this is software now. The Kindle app has a brightness slider on ot that goes from very bright to very dark.

On medium brightness, everything looks as expected when moving the slider. On low, purple shades throughout.

keep us posted on the exchange and how the new one behaves ..

My replacement shipping request was put through to UPS yesterday.   The phone should be picked up today and hopefully delivered tomorrow.

Interestingly, they knocked me out yesterday morning when they added the SIM card they're shipping me to the account and it made that one active.   Since then fixed.

Just got my replacement and the purple is still in full force on the new phone. =/  If anything it seems to be even brighter now on the new device.

Nokia North America reached out to me last week to exchange it so I'm going to pursue that avenue now.

You know what's even more strange.. this new one is right now is grey when the brightness is set to automatic and low but manually set it to low and boom... purple. I've even seen it change to purple from grey before my eyes and the brightness hadn't appeared to have changed.

I too have the same problem -> confirmed by setting brightness to low. If there is link floating around to confirm it is a software issue, can someone post it? I don't want to go through the hassle of replacing the phone, only to end up with *another* one with the same problem.

None of the following are yet conclusive... sharing in one place to save some surfing time.

ok got it .. apparently we all thought that when the brightness get low and low, the purple will come correct ... but there are few apps which have brightness toggle features . Ex: kindle app and when you are in Kindle and try lowering the brightness, the purple never comes ..

I called Rogers today and opened a case for both this issue and the interent sharing without LTE problem. The business tier 1 and tier 2 technical support team and their respective managers were not aware of either problem.

After pointing to the forums they did conclude that more investigation is required. Given that they can't conclude if the problem is hardware or software, they agreed to note my account and allow a replacement after the 15 days if it turns out to be hardware.

I'll keep an eye on the case and report back.

Doesn't Rogers read their own forums? Customers are returning phones, only to end up with units that have the same problem. This is starting to cost real money.

Rogers please save us all some time and assign someone to stick handle this one, and please post something to this thread.

Re: purplish screen

Its not the phone the problem. The phone is FINE!

For the LTE - Rogers needs to tweak their system settings for your account. They did so for me and I can tether with LTE, 3G (4G), and E with no issues....

For the purple screen - once again NOT the phone. Its a software issue related to the auto-dimming feature once it is at a certain brightness level. Nokia told me its aware of the issue. No ETA for a fix.

Can I ask a favour and have you share the case number? While you found someone at Rogers who knows how to tweak the settings, no one else there seems to.

Here is a quick video of the problem that puts a Samsung Focus beside the Lumia 900: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y4IfVdyuKq0&feature=colike
