iPhone 5 "cannot get mail"

I'm travelling in the US and roaming on AT&T and pretty much since I crossed the border I can't get email on my phone. Works through safari but the mail app says the password is incorrect, which its not. I have data roaming on. Help?!?

Re: iPhone 5 "cannot get mail"

Huh.. that is odd...

I am at work, and i just tested here from my pc.
Pinged pop.broadband.rogers.com and it DID get a reply, so its not blocked.

So, maybe it IS possible that it is being blocked by your bell internet?  Are you able to try that from a PC at home? (prefereably wired.. just to illiminate the wireless part out)

Click start, then run,  then type in

cmd

This will bring up a dos box.

type

ping pop.broadband.rogers.com

And see if it gets a reply.

Re: iPhone 5 "cannot get mail"

Is this for rogers mail? Or another one like google?

IF using rogers, what addresses are you using for the pop/smtp/imap settings?

Re: iPhone 5 "cannot get mail"

It is a Rogers email address and I also have problems when at home on Wifi.  My internet provider at home is not Rogers (if that makes any difference).

incoming mail host server - imap.mail.yahoo.com

outgoing mail SMTP - smtp.mobile.mail.yahoo.com

I don't see any POP settings..

Re: iPhone 5 "cannot get mail"

you might be using the wrong server settings, i did some searching on the rogers.com web site and found these:

If you are setting up your rogers.com (Rogers Hi Speed Internet) email address, here is some information to assist you:

Log in Information

Type your full email address (e.g., example@rogers.com).

Password is your Rogers Yahoo! Mail password. (Ensure you are entering the correct password.)

Server Information (iPhone)

      Incoming Mail Server (POP3): pop.broadband.rogers.com.

      Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP): smtp.rogerswirelessdata.com.

Server Information (PC users)

      Incoming Mail Server (POP3): pop.broadband.rogers.com.

      Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP): smtp.broadband.rogers.com

Port Information

      587 (for smtp.broadband.rogers.com)

25 (for smtp.rogerswirelessdata.com - no authentication or SSL required)

If you are using an email service other than Rogers, please refer to your service provider to ensure the accuracy of their settings as they will be required to correctly set up email on your Rogers wireless device.

Re: iPhone 5 "cannot get mail"

Nester:  Yes, its likley your server settings, that may be causing the issue.
SOMETIMES, some servers, are not accesible, if you are on another provider.

IE:  I had a rogers email address from at home, when i went to college.  There i was on bell (only choice).  My incomming mail would work just fine.. but i couldnt send anything with the rogers SMTP server.  I had to use the BELL one for it... weither bell blocked the rogers one, or was just not accessible..

PoP = incomming mail server.  Give the PC settings there that Pauly listed a try.    That is what i have my rogers email address set up on my iphone with.
I am able to receive and send emails... both on wifi at home (rogers), celular, and wifi at work (bell)

Re: iPhone 5 "cannot get mail"

Thanks all!  I tried playing around with the settings and it doesn't seem to make a difference.  I imagine it's because I'm not using Rogers at home for internet so I am giving up for now... guess I'll just have to rely on the old fashioned way of checking email!

Re: iPhone 5 "cannot get mail"

That SHOULDNT make a difference.

Again, i am NOT on rogers at work, where i am sitting right now, on the BELL interet, on wifi.. and my phone just got an email 2 mins ago.

Here are my settings:

Incomming mail server

hostname: pop.broadband.rogers.com

username: myusername@rogers.com

password: mypassword

Outgoing Mail Server:
smtp: smtp.broadband.rogers.com

I know in the past, people used to be able to qualify the username, without having the FULL email address.. so if its only the short name, try the full email address there.
