iPhone 4S upgrade costs?

yoeun905
I Plan to Stick Around

I've owned my iPhone 4 since last years release date and I reserved my iPhone 4S and it didn't say how much it would cost to upgrade, so i called customer service and they replied with no help telling me they don't have the information. So pretty much when i pick it up its going to be a surprize.

Does anyone know how much we will be paying for the new iPhone upgrade?

Okay, what the heck is this? I just checked my upgrade eligibility and Rogers wants $319 rather than $269 from me for the 32GB iPhone 4S (plus $35 activation).

Where is that extra $50 coming from?

The last phone Rogers gave me was a Samsung flip phone 4.5 years ago. And since I'm starting a brand new 3 year contract without ever having receiving any smartphone of any kind from them, how are they charging me anything above the bare minimum price of $269 of the 32GB 4S?

What on Earth is going on here?

It looks like if you have a retention plan, that you WONT get the $50 rebate.......

Looks like I might as well buy the phone with no-term from Rogers or Apple Store. REALLY don't want to line up.

Seriously? Rogers is raising the price of the phone by $50 for those who have a retention plan? If that's the case, that's absolutely insane.

I was hoping that it was simply because I haven't added a data plan yet, so the calculations are off because of that. But if they still want to charge me an extra $50 even after I add data, that will be inexcusable .

Rogers requires 3 year contracts whereas everywhere else in the world requires 2 years or less, so I thought that a slightly reduced handset price was a way of making things a little more legitimate. But if Rogers won't even do that, then I might have to go elsewhere for my wireless needs.

Rogers never set those prices. Everyone got those prices.... i will post the same email i got witht he same prices for you yo see.

I am eligible for a hardware upgrade so now that i did that check its telling me

"Dear Customer,

As of the date above, you are eligible to upgrade to an iPhone at the following prices, with select new 3 year term voice and data plans. See Full Details below or in-store for additional details and conditions.

Model 3 year term voice & data plan offer

iPhone 4S 16GB $209.00 + $35 Hardware Upgrade Administration Fee

iPhone 4S 64GB $419.00 + $35 Hardware Upgrade Administration Fee

iPhone 4 8GB $149.00 + $35 Hardware Upgrade Administration Fee

Plus applicable taxes

underneath it says on the full details

"Full Details

This upgrade offer is valid only with select new three-year term Voice and Data plans. Price plan change may be required. Subject to iPhone availability.

Customers who renew on select three-year terms may be eligible for a one-time $50 Hardware Upgrade Rebate credit. Credit to be applied to customer’s invoice. Offer subject to change without notice. Full Hardware Upgrade Rebate details available in store. "

So does this mean since i got the 32gb one ill get it for 269 instead of the 319 that it is since ill get the 50 $ discount off."

You still get the 50$ rebate coupon once you get your phone. It does not matter what plan or anything you still get it.

I've Been Here Awhile

WHAT"S THE POINT OF STAYING WITH ROGERS????

I was told by Rogers I'd have to $319 + $320 + $35 = $675.00

I I were to cancel my contract with Rogers it would cost me a maximum of $500 + $269 for  new contract with Bell = $769.00

That's only a $94 difference...plus I'd have to sign another 3 year term with Rogers....After being a customer for years and years and only ever taking advantage of an early upgrade offer (last year) I'm absolutely had it with Rogers....

I'm leaving Rogers and taking my $1500+/year service with me!

Have fun paying the same amount at Bell & Telus ( if you choice to go to Telus).

All the 3big ones are doing this. People have not realized it at all. You blame Rogers but sit down & do the same math on a Bell plan for 36 months for the same stuff you have at Rogers. Come back to me when you know the price :)..

So for the phone. You still need to sign a 3 year term at Bell. LOL. & you still get a little less then what you get from Rogers. You do not even get any good deals or anything form Bell if you tell them you want to leave. At least with Rogers they give you a discount or something at least. Bell won't. So have fun with that 🙂

I am not sticking up for Rogers at all but you are going to spend the same amount of money in all 36 months if you go to Rogers, Bell & Telus.

Believe me i have a second line with Bell in which i regret getting it with them & now thinking of transfering it to Rogers. With Bell you also do not get some promotions like rogers will give you. Bell reps are not so nice that will do anything for you. Most of the time they all just do not care.

The previous, really cheap, upgrade pricing for iPhone buyers was discriminatory to other smartphone owners. The new HUP rules (I still have a problem with 30 months) is fairer across the board. That being said, there is enough anecdotal evidence around that if one is a high spender with Rogers - north of $100 excluding taxes (I don't know how much higher) then one will get a much better HUP pricing even if you purchased an iPhone 4 last year using the generous HUP pricing then. I fancy this is fair as spending a lot more than the average smartphone user should be worth something.

I understand where this is coming from as Rogers is tightening up a lot this year with customer relations/retention deals after the drop in its ARPU.

I am *far* from a Rogers' fanboy, but that petition is so terribly flawed in many areas; from the citation of alleged facts about Rogers' iPhone ARPUs (if I were to guess it would be roughly $80 per iPhone user), to the even more extreme and ridiculous pronouncement re profit. To compound it all, the spelling and syntax are poor. I would be too embarrassed to put my name to that even if I agreed with the sentiments.

I agree with you. Also The ones putting their names on that you are just plain dumb (sorry but it has to be said)

You make a petition from here

http://www.parl.gc.ca/About/House/PracticalGuides/Petitions/petitionsPG2008__Pg02-e.htm

The petition you guys are making have a lot of problems i would not start with & a lot of people are just **bleep** because they never got the special pricing that no carrier gave.. Sad to say but Rogers, Bell & Telus are most likely laughing at all of you.

Grow up & deal with it. Leave the company if you do not like it. Go to another company that you guys think will treat you better. Rogers will not be sad or upset you guys are doing this because they have over 9millions costumers. Try getting all half of those 9 mill to sign that petition. They are not going to change unless halfd of the 9 million costumers they have either walk away or do this petition i showed. Not the one you showed us. I am not trying to be mean or taking sides with Rogers. But this looks bad on you guys not Them. You need to understand the law of how a bussniess works. I guess none of you do not understand that.

(No i do not work with Rogers nor do i like them i just have my point of view that this is pretty dumb & lame that you guys are doing.)

Re: iPhone 4S upgrade costs?

Hmm

Wait a minute. I thought those who are eligibe for an upgrade (not early upgrade) would only be paying $159 for the 16 GB 4S model!!?? Smiley Indifferent

As far as any MIR to help offset or lower the price, I was told a few years ago by a customer retentions/relations supervisor that they were NOT allowed to deviate from the pricing Rogers and Apple agreed upon. AT the time, all over the forums, people were bragging how they got the previous 3G (the year before) and they paid only $199 for the 3GS as soon as it came out. They were not normally eligible for  HU even though their revenue was below $100/month. Their account got dinged something l ike $4-500 but credits were applied over a period of many months to lower it to the $199.

As explained to me by several different CSR at the retentions level, EVERYONE was suppose to pay the same price (depending if they were doing an early HU) and stacking or rebates/discounts applied to the account to offset the EHUP was not allowed.

Like i said, this happened a few years ago with the 3GS and I cant confirm if it happend last year since I wasnt following it then. But previously,  many CSRs at the customer relations level were stacking rebates, discounts, etc for a short period of time to  a select few who had great negotiating/manipulating skills to get a lower price then what they were eligible for.

At present, it seems Rogers is charging a higher base price for those eligibe for a hardware upgrade than what is Apple's pricing scheme for same.

I would appreciate if someone from Roger's team would chime in on this.

Re: iPhone 4S upgrade costs?

You sound bogus and I do not believe a single word you are saying since you definitely work or at least should work for Rogers!

Re: iPhone 4S upgrade costs?

I am now going through a HUGE mess for my upgrade. I knew that I would be paying an early upgrade fee for sure however I was advised by the website and an agent that the cost for the device is $159 plus I would get a mail in rebate for $50. Well received my bill today and was charged $209 for the device and was told that the price published on the website included the mail in rebate however no knows where it says that information and I have searched hi and low and it can not be found.

I called and spoke with a manager who has stated that he will not take the time to locate but it is correct. I asked him again to show me where on the website the price shown includes the mail in rebate and he stated he does not know but will not look for it as he does not have the time. I asked to escalate above him and he did state do not bother as it will not be changed.

BE VERY CAREFULL WHEN YOU GO FOR AN UPGRADE!

Re: iPhone 4S upgrade costs?

Dont upgrade now...wait until October when the iPhone 5 becomes available if you insist on an iPhone. For me, the puny .4999 inch 16:9 screen upgrade is forcing me to look at Android. The screen size of the iPhone is just too tiny for my needs.

Re: iPhone 4S upgrade costs?

same b.s story i rec'd ....can someone point me to where it says $ 209.00 ....

Ya, those kinds of denials and obfuscations are standard Rogers practice.  They will advertise one thing then do another.  Everyone knows this, and more and more people are leaving them according to the numbers.  Leave or enjoy the Rogers treatment.

Re: iPhone 4S upgrade costs?

correct me if im wrong, but this would be the breakdown of the early upgrade to an Apple iPhone 4s 16gb

+ 159.99 (device)

+ 156.00 (EUF)

+ 35.00 (admin)

= 350.99 (subtotal before tax)

-  50.00 (rebate)

= 300.99 (subtotal)

+ Tax (12%)

= $337.11 (Grand Total)

I do believe this is the correct breakdown for the early upgrade to an iPhone 4s 16gb

Cheers!
