Im getting really tired of this!!! Every night for the past 4 night this box updates I dont see any changes I have to manually turn the box back on to get it to work and it messes up my recording schedules The one from Tuesday was brutal after the update I was watching a talk show (obviously the next afternoon ) all of a sudden it switched to rogers ppv onvdemand said I didnt have permission and then flipped to some foreign ppv porn channel at this point the remote would not work ( which has happened b4 from updates) I had to manually navigate with the buttons on the front to get it to reboot at which time it installed another update .I hate trying to watch tv in th eearly hours as thats when Im up kind of waste of time .Update should be silent and not cause issues with the client this is the 3rd or 4th box since last april .I think the next box will be shaw or bell .I use to have a free to air set top and there were way less updates on that then this piece of JUNK

Why would they have to update the box every day? I can understand the guide being updated, but why should that interfere with the user? I have the old 8300HD PVR and never have these problems, so I assume you're talking about one of the newer boxes. The only thing I ever see is, occasionally, my box is tuned to channel 1 when I turn it on, which means Rogers has done something. I rarely get this either. I do understand that the 8300 may not be getting as many updates as the newer boxes, but still...

I feel for you guys with the new boxes, what a pain. If Rogers ever gets to the point that they tell me I can no longer use my 8300, I'll seriously consider jumping ship to Fibe TV. I know some people who have it and it seems to be reasonably stable.

I love the features of the Nextbox 3.0, except for the patch download that comes down at night. This should be smart enough to know the box is in use and not just blank the screen with a download message. Very annoying if your recording or watching the TV at the time.

I can't believe how bad this NextBox 3.0 is. The updates at 2am every night, whether you're in the middle of watching a show or not are extremely annoying. And how long should it take to update? If it was 5 minutes, it would be annoying but livable. As it is, the box is often unusable for a couple of hours, and at least once wasn't available again until 5pm the next day! 15 hours!
Totally unacceptable. Since everyone seems to have been complaining here for a while, looks like Rogers doesn't care. Guess the only answer is to cancel.

the NB2 also has/had the update issues at that time.
If the box is unusable for that period of time.. there is something else going on.
Either signal issue internally, causing the download issues... or something more area wide, where the whole area is effected with the same issues.
While there are quite a number complaining about this exact issue.... there are also others who are relatively fine, that it only does the 5-15 mins as it should (probably hear less of the people who are fine, as they have nothing to post anywhere to commplain about :P)

Rogers needs to include a Firmware flashing utility in their NB3 bios. Rogers also needs to have a web page where customers can pick and choose which firmware they want to download and install on their box. All firmware with accompanying improvements and download links would be listed according to release date.
The update could be accomplished by the accepted means. Download firmware ROM to computer. Load on USB drive. Connect flashdrive to NB3 via USB port. Go to NB3 settings. Fire up the Bios flashing utility. Flash firmware.
Some hardware manufacturers also include an updating utility within the new firmware package. Simply download package to thumbdrive and click to install.
Firmware flashing is not always a good thing. If the hardware is functioning well then a firmware update would NEVER be a good idea. Not all boxes need to be updated to the latest firmware. You go with the firmware version that works for YOU.
Rogers has the right idea. They just have no clue how to implement it efficiently.
