WiFi Calling with IOS 8

With rogers being on record that they will support wifi calling in ios 8, and with the GM now available, when should we be expecting a carrier update to enable it?

I'm running iOS 9.1 public beta on a 6+ (updated from all the previous Dev 9.0 Betas and running Rogers 21.1.5 as carrier settings) and Wifi Calling is working...as long as Rogers One Number is not activated on your account. My phone is actually on Wifi Rogers right now at work where I have only 2 bars of Rogers LTE coverage it seems to grab on automatically when it dips below 3 bars...the call quality is insane!  i could hear my wife breathing and little things in the background that no cell call ever could before. I cant wait for VoLTE to come to iPhone now. I know it can support it with a carrier update. any update on that Rogers? i see the original LG phone is now at home on VoLTE with a bunch of Samsung phones now

Currenty the only company to enable WiFi calling for iOS 8 is T-Mobile. I was wondering if Rogers has any plan to enable this for iOS 8 devices as it's something that is done carrier side.

Thanks.

Hello Bodom_

Unfortunately at this moment Rogers hasn't said if they will or will not. I am sure they will once IOS8 is fully out or when the new iPhone will come out. Stay tuned for more information when the time comes.

I am sure it will tho. Just give it time for them to announce it if they plan to enable it.

Hello ximofo

Most likely after the iPhone 6 & iPhone 6 Plus will be released which is Next Friday. OR they could open it up after IOS 8 gets reelased.

Although i am hearing mixed dates but it should be between then as its baked into the OS & should work.

is wifi calling like what i used to have when i had blackberries, it uses the house wifi network to ingest my call into rogers instead of cell?

if so, i really missed that when i switched over to iphone (from blackberry), my house is in a rogers cell dead zone

Hello graystone14

Its exactly the same thing. I still have the Rogers modem with both WiFi antennas ( Blue one from Cisco) which does WiFi calling.

i dont recall needing a special modem from rogers, as long as my blackberry was on any wifi network, it worked.

or did you need a special modem/router?

Re: WiFi Calling with IOS 8

Hey Graystone14! When Apple first announced WiFi calling at the unveiling of IOS 8 at WWDC 2014 Rogers said, "We’ll support the iOS 8 Wi-Fi calling feature when it becomes available in Canada. In the meantime, Rogers customers using the Rogers One Number service on their computer, tablet or smartphone can already make calls over Wi-Fi." It's not an exact date, but I'm sure we'll hear more once iOS 8 becomes availible on the 17th. The wifi calling with your blackberry is simliar to the Rogers One Number, which ealier requied an adapter.

Re: WiFi Calling with IOS 8

I have Rogers One Number and an iPhone 4S. I've tried calling over Wi-Fi a few times and find it very finicky. When I initiate a call, I get a bar near the top of the screen complaining about signal quality. People I've called also say the signal is breaking up. I have perfect Wi-Fi and my router is no more than a few feet from my phone. I use Wi-Fi all the time for everything else on my phone with absolutely no issues. I get consistent download speeds in the 25mbps range. I have no idea why calling over Wi-Fi isn't working properly. When iOS 8 comes out, I'll try Wi-Fi calling again without using RON.

Re: WiFi Calling with IOS 8

I'm assuming for now that Wifi Calling for iOS 8 will be using difference protocols, ei, no Rogers My Account sign in needed. I've also had troubles myself using Rogers One Number on my iPhone while Traveling outside of Canada. Mainly minor issues for call quality. However, using One Number on my PC or Mac works great.

I use RON on my Windows computer and it's a great product.

So...iOS 8 is out, and I'm not seeing this option (should be under settings, phone) - any word on when WiFi calling will be enabled?

Its something that the CARRIER has to enable on their end as well.

Unfortunately, rogers will not comment on features/etc that have not been released yet.

They really wont lany anyone know until they have an annoucement.

keep looking on settings -> about for a carrier update id guess xmas if we're lucky..

"rogers will not comment on features/etc that have not been released yet"

it already is released since the ios 8 BETAS, ios 8 is released to public today, rogers network already supports it on other phones (not talking about one number app), & rogers themself already said they will support it months ago near wwdc 2014 in june.

they already commented, now we wait for actions

I can confirm wifi calling works on TMobile USA and iOS 8. But when I put in my Rogers SIM; nada.

And in typical Rogers style the last update to iPhone OneNumber is broken and has been broken for nearly a month. (Check out the iTunes reviews to see Rogers continue its decent into mediocrity.)

Wifi calling on iOS 8 does not require anything beyond a normal wifi connection.. I used it this morning with Tmobile.

Rogers One Number is NOT an option. The last iPhone version is broken and has been for weeks.

Clearly this is a carrier issue, which is why I posted here.  I think the most disappointing part is that Rogers was one of the first to announce support for this, and it wasn't a "coming soon" but instead stated clearly:

"We'll support the iOS 8 Wi-Fi calling feature when it becomes available in Canada."

http://appleinsider.com/articles/14/06/03/rogers-wireless-becomes-second-carrier-to-confirm-ios-8-wi...

Well, its available.  We're waiting.

And now Rogers has removed the link (or it expired) from the iPhone FAQ page that captured this thread about WiFi calling on iOS 8...

And Rogers One Number application is still broken nearly three weeks later. (Yet the iPad app still works.)

I wish Rogers would spend less time and money marketing and advertising for services that aren't working or are not being delivered and fix and deliver what they are selling.

(...and of course calling customer service forever yields the responses that their 'system' including 'My Rogers" are continually offline due to being down for maintenance.)

It's strange than RON mobile isn't working for everyone. I had trouble briefly when I first installed it, but it's working fine for me on my iPhone and I can use Wi-Fi for calls.
