I want to buy a phone at Rogers and this will be my first phone. I think that the Samsung galaxy 3 requires me to buy a data plan for 3 years contract. I also like the blackberry bold 9900 and the HTC one x but I don't know if I am required to buy a data plan. Which phone is the best for me if I am planning to go with a 3 years contract. I am a man, early 20 and I go to university. I go to school with a bus(25% of the road) then by subway(75%). In addition, I have internet at school, at home and Tim hortons, Mcdonald and even some park. I don't need a phone with a data plan since I don't like surfing on internet with a small device like a phone. I already have a blackberry playbook tablet and a laptop. I am searching for a phone that have a long battery life and durable. I don't care of the apps since I have a ipod touch also. I know that blackberry has around 100 000 apps, android 550 000 and ios more than 1 500 000 . There is also window 8 phone but I don't have so much information on that. So Which phone should I buy with a 3 years contract?
Solved! Solved! Go to Solution.
You can buy most phones with or without a data plan however if you are talking about getting promotional pricing on any smartphone it would require a data plan to be eligible.
Does anyone have any input on the OS versions? Any suggestions that may help make his decision a little easier as to which phone would best suit his needs.
Motorala Razr XT 910
Nokia lumia 900
Nokia Lumia 710
Samsung galaxy Q
All device above are $50 or less on a 3 yr term with no Data required.
I do not believe that RogersAndrew is correct. If you go into a Rogers store, they will refuse you any kind of smart phone purchase unless you also get a data plan. Been there, done that! I agree with the OP, in that I do not need a data plan and have no interest in accessing the Internet on a small screen like a phone. Rogers does have phones under the category of "smart phone lite" which do not require a data plan. That being said, if Rogers really wanted to, they could provide any phone whatsoever without the requirement of a data plan, but they choose not to do so. It is simply another money grab!
Agreed IHR. The problem tho is that all the carriers do this. Bell, Telus, Fido, Virgin do this policy.
They just want you to get the high end phones with data to make more money. In the end, its about the money Rogers makes. All the phones do not need data, they just make you get data for them to make more money. It sucks to live in a world like this.
Agreed Meowmix. They all do it, but it is not right. They are charging megabucks for data that costs them pennies! I refuse to get sucked in!
So this is unfair for people that don't want a data plan. it is like 45$ per month and you only get 0.1 Gb. My home internet has 40 Gb for 30$. They make so much money with data plan. It would be good one day that my home internet can reach your phone or tablet anywhere just like the USB key that you plug on laptop that Rogers is offering.
I like to have the Samsung Galaxy, or HTC x, or bb 9900 but guess what they all need you to buy a data plan. I have a blackberry tablet( only wi-fi) and it only cost me 120$. A bb 9900 without contract cost 500$ and it's even smaller than my tablet and both are blackberry. I don't get it why a phone cost so much. I just want the 27$ plan per month and this would be 324$ after 1 year and after three years 972$ (if I pick a 0$ phone). If I buy only the phone which cost 500$, I can find a 20$ per month at fido or virgin and after 3 years this would cost me 500$+ 720$ = 1220$. You could buy a new computer with that money. Have you heard that in europe, people are paying around 100$ a year and get almost anything unlimited.
