This thread from the Computer help forum explains my problem. Cryptodan, who knows a lot more about this stuff than me, did some tests and thinks the DNS for Allmusic needs to be updated by Rogers. When I expressed concern about any attempt to get Rogers to take my concern seriously and actually do something about it, he has offered to help me by discussing this with Rogers directly. I will waive confidentiality so he can do that. I'm smart enough to know that I don't know anything about DNS and he knows a lot.
Solved! Solved! Go to Solution.
I did an online chat with Rogers service. They have escalated this to engineering and I will be contacted in a day or so.
Unfortunately from here, this is a USER to USER help forum.. you would really need to call in and get a ticket escalated internally.
As for me, on my home connection, my rogers gateway (SMC) is using
THey DO appear to be working for me, from my rogers connection just fine.. allmusic loads no problem.
allmovies loads to a holding the domain type page, but it loads... which is the same as what i get on my bell for that site from work.
You did try a flush DNS for that PC?
Alternatively.. you could change your DNS server over to say a public one as well, like GOOGLES (which is what i normally use at home.. i disabled it to test on the rogers one).
You dont have to do this at the ROUTER level, you can do it in the PC's networking device setup
Can you please perform the following:
In a command prompt and post the output using the Rogers DNS in the first post of this thread. Also the output of your ipconfig so I can compare yours to franks?
Now, i am using a gateway, and not a modem only, like Franks.
Hense when DHCP, it is giving me the gateway and DNS as being my gateway device.
On the gateway, the DNS servers listed, are the same as franks, as i postes in my first reply.

Again, resolves to my gateway.
Can you determine your DNS Addresses that your gateway are using, because as you can see in my responses on Bleepingcomputer the addresses in your DNS entries timeout when doing a DNS Query.

they do not respond to ping, so my troubleshooting dictates that those IP's are not up and the servers those IP's are assigned to are not up.
If they were not up 100% then no one with rogers would likely be ble to go to ANY websites.
I am a sysadmin for a small factory.. and i know what i am doing.
I reset my settings again, to DHCP, so i am getting all my settings directly from the gateway.
I have run a flushDNS on that system.
Confirmed my settings on my gateway:

If the issue was PURELY DNS related.. by him chaning his DNS manually to the google ones, etc.. SHOULD have fixed the issue.
IE: When rogers had their major DNS server outage at the begining of this year, is when i switched to using google on a device by device bassis. On the day of the outage.. the internet WORKED.. just nothing would resolve, as the servers were down. Instantly as you switch the DNS over to another.. things would resovle right away.
