From another forum, there are currently several users who have reported that their 8642 PVR have DIED ('er99') after trying to schedule a recording remotely. It appears to happen whether they were using the app or the web site.
For now, most users are being told by Rogers to swap for another box ... BUT many are reporting their local Rogers Store DO NOT HAVE ANY 8642 PVRs TO SWAP!!!
The thread starts in the middle of the page here:
For now, unless you really, really, REALLY must schedule something remotely, I would wait a few weeks for the dust to settle.
P.S. Someone has posted that reformatting the PVR resolves the problem, but for 8642PVR owners, this will violate your warranty.
We have reports of service interruptions impacting some PVR 8642 HD users in parts of Ontario. We’re working to resolve this ASAP and apologize for the inconvenience, folks.
Here's an updated URL:
Again, although some have posted workaround/solutions, modifying the hardware will invalidate your warranty.
So the Rogers rep told us that the er99 problem is a network issue. I find that hard to beleive. Looks like Rogers has been pushing untested software onto the 8642 boxes. I have been 3 days now with $500 brick. What I find strnage though is that only one of the two 8642 boxes I have is a brick the other works fine.
I bought the boxes but Rogers broke the one. Will they fix it?? Wonder if being er99 prevents the box from getting new uploads. Will Rogers need to go to every subscriber to make the fix?
Has anyone else got their's fixed??? I have been patient so far but I pay Rogers over $5000 a year for all the services I get what with internet, phones, cable etc.and would expect a higher level of service from them.
Has this issue been resolved? I swapped my PVR out twice because of this. Afraid to use the remote TV manager application. Can someone confirm please?
My box is still a brick after 3.5 weeks. Any news? I read elsewhere that a guy swapped for another box, brough it home and it worked until he used the mobile phone app and, within 10 minutes, the new box was bricked with er99 as well.
According to one member of another forum, a fix is available and is being pushed out by area.
It is also supposed to fix PVRs that already in the 'er99' state.
Apparently last night's firmware update has fixed the problem.
1. If your PVR was stuck on "er99", it should be OK after the firmware update
2. It is also apparently safe to schedule using the iOS app again ...
