Experienced similar issues all summer/fall with Breaking Bad on AMC. Commercials were extremely loud, yet could barley make out conversations. Seemed to fade throughout and gradually had TV volume in the 80s,90s (of 100) for the first time ever. Noticed with mostly pvr recordings (8642), not sure if this was HD AMC or not. At least w could review what wasn't heard.

Another update. For the last few days, I've not been experiencing any audio issues on channel 550, which is a positive sign. This is the channel where I've been getting audio volume fluctuations and lots of echo in some movies and, particularly, in the Spartacus series. I'll record Spartacus on Sunday and see how it goes.

Hello Everyone;
Sorry, but I have bad news.
It has nothing to do with what TV set you are presently using.
It is only the Rogers set box (cable box), that has all of the issues.
My Explorer 4250HD cable box is connected:
- To my Samsung HD TV (RGB - Pr Pb Y)
- To my Insignia Amp. (RCA - Jacks x2) (volume set @ 60%)
- Set box - speakers set @ narrow band
Big Bang - My Explorer 4250HD set box, just totally died. (Jan. 17/2013)
I now have a “new” NextBox™ 2.0 Explorer 4642 HD.
- To my Samsung HD TV (RGB - Pr Pb Y) & (HDMI)
- To my Insignia AMP (RCA - Jacks x2) (volume “NOW” set @ 50%)
- Set box - speakers set @ narrow band
#1) All I did was disconnect all the cables from the old set box.
#2) All I did was insert all the cables into the new set box.
#3) Turned on the set box.
#4) The “volume” was a lot louder, so I turned down my AMP to 50% volume.
#5) Set box - speakers set @ narrow band
My Results:
All I did was exchange the set box and changed nothing else.
I am absolutely receiving “Volume Fluctuates”.
Conclusion:
This is only an issue with the Rogers set box.

Hi Gdkitty:
Question:
ED, are you getting the volume go up and down during a show?
Answer:
Yes, my (“Volume Fluctuates”), with much higher and lower volumes, because I am boosting the sound from the Rogers set box, to an amplifier, to my Boss speaker system.
Your Note:
From your explanation of your hardware switch, that is just more that the base amplification volume on the new box is higher than the old.
My Personal Experience:
The new Rogers top box did increase my overall volume to my amplifier.
The sound came out much louder from my small Bose speakers and not from my Bose base woofer box.
The “Volume Fluctuates”, because it is defiantly a problem with the Rogers set box.
Who knows when or if Rogers will ever fix this problem !
RE: Audiovox Terk VR1 Automatic TV Volume Controller (Box)
This automatic volume controller will work
-BUT-
It can only use “analog” audio.
Digital Dolby will “not” work for this application.
-Thanks-

Ed1952:
Just my opinion, but I seriously doubt the cable box is the source of the problem. I have an almost 9 year old 8300HD PVR and only started getting the volume fluctuation problem recently. I think the problem is at the "source", either with Rogers or the satellite provider, such as The Movie Network. I watched the movie Battleship on the weekend on TMN (channel 550) and the volume problem was just awful. It would be interesting to know if this happens on Bell's Fibe TV. There are some posters on this forum who have both Rogers and Bell.

A.O.K.
My son has a Explorer 4250HD set box, and it “never” has the “Volume Fluctuate”.
My old Explorer 4250HD set box, “never” had the “Volume Fluctuate”,
till it died on Jan. 17/2013.
My “new” NextBox™ 2.0 Explorer 4642 HD, does have the “Volume Fluctuate”.
What ever, the only item I changed was to a new set box, that has many advanced features,
and only Rogers R&D team, knows the truth.
