Unlocking iPhone Thread

I've Been Around

Hi,

We'll be travelling to the Philippines for a few weeks shortly and I was wondering whether it is possible to get my iPhone 4 unlocked so that I can use it there with a local carrier?

Thanks

Hello parag

If you wish to unlock your phone via third party then so be it. Go do it then. Rogers has a different way then those third party stores that make u pay way more. End of story.

If u feel like Rogers is doing that, feel free to unlock your device via different method. Its on ur own risk tho

Hello parag

I am not upset with you. You can do whatever you like with your as its on your own risk. I am simply telling you the Rogers policy and how the unlocking is done via Rogers.

You can try and talk to Rogers and see what they do for u.!

Hello karman

You can only unlock it via third party store or online. In order to unlock it via Rogers, you need to have a Rogers account and the IMEI number must be on the account

I've Been Here Awhile

I currently have an iPhone 4 under contract with Rogers. I've paid Rogers to have mine unlocked. My husband also has an iPhone 4, but his is locked. We're going to Hong Kong and were planning to buy two of the new iPhone 5S. Would it be possible to simply transfer the SIM cards from our existing phones into these new phones and continue with the Rogers service we currently have? We're a little clueless about all this.

Hello jc24

The iPhone 5S uses a Nano Sim Card. You will need to buy the 2 new Nano Sim Cards and activate them to be used on the 5S. You can buy the nano sim cards from Rogers, keep them until you get to HK and then log into My Rogers - Overview - Change Sim. You add the current sim card number and then the new sim card number. It will automatically charge the sims on your account to the new one.

I will help you,

You can unlock your rogers locked iphone 4 with a help of your service provider. It's one of the best and safe way to unlock your iphone without jailbreaking.

Hello aik1

The policy is to wait 90 days to unlock your device is you get it with a contract. If you buy the phone outright, full price then they will have to unlock it immediately for you. The price Rogers asks is $50. Far less then some sites that unlock iPhones.

Hello aik1

If you buy the phone from a carrier or Apple, the phone will be clean BUT if u buy the phone from someone else, ask for the IMEI number and u can contact Apple and or Rogers and have them run the IMEI number on their data base and see if its reported stolen or lost.

I Plan to Stick Around

Factory unlocked Iphone is the phone which was unlocked by Apple before selling so it can be used with many different carriers in plenty of countries.

Since your iPhone 4 has been locked to rogers..You first verify that whether they are rendering service for your country and network provider ..If yes then pay for it and unlock your iPhone 4 the cost to unlock it depends on the network to which it is locked at present .......

Hello Aik1

If you are looking for the IMEI of any in-market phone, simply dial *#06# and it will instead display the IMEI number of the device it was dialed into. This is often used by Rogers representatives to confirm that they are unlocking the correct device and saves one the troubles of searching for where it is located (usually inside the phone behind the battery).

Hope this helps 🙂

Edit: Forgot to tie it to the lost/stolen question

Before purchasing any phones from a third party individual, it is usually best to get the IMEI from them and to then contact Rogers. Even if the phone is not listed as lost or stolen, the original owner could still have added it to the new "Blacklist" feature. This is for stolen devices which all service providers in North America and some international carriers enforce. Any devices on the blacklist are barred from any service aside from basic emergency numbers which can not be blocked. The IMEI can only be removed by the account holder of the line in which the IMEI was added to the blacklist from. Even if the phone was never stolen, when phones are replaced through the "Device protection program" the phone that is being replaced is added to a permanant blacklist as well, to prevent people from abusing the insurance feature. It could be possible that they may attempt to sell their old phone which was replaced through this program, not knowing that it was blacklisted (this type of blacklist can not be removed).

It never hurts to contact Rogers if you have any concerns or questions about this type of information.

Hello Micolas

IPhone's do not have removable batteries. This thread is about IPhone's.but like you said the IMEI number will be located in a couple of places actually. On the device behind the battery, in the settings, when you type *#06# and on the box of the device.

As for the rest you are correct as me and others have posted this already in many threads. Thanks tho 🙂

Re: Unlocking iPhone Thread

That's interesting. I dialed #06# and got an error message "unknown application" with dismiss at the bottom of the screen. I have a 4S and am on iOS 7.1. The IMEI shows in Settings>General though.

Hi jimboden

You would have to ensure that you use the "*" (star) in front of the #06#, otherwise it will not work. For clarity, one would dial:

-star-  -pound-  -zero-  -six-  -pound-

Sometimes when people put stars next to something, it sometimes refers to drawing attention to it, but it is part of the dialing pattern.

Hope this helps 🙂
